Hi all,

This morning I’ve noticed a fair amount of oil residue from my engine filler cap - on closer inspection I have noticed it isn’t properly closed/sealed tightly allowing a small amount of oil to leak out.

I have taken the cap off and replaced several times but no matter what I can’t get a tight seal.

Any ideas???

Are you sure that isn’t just spillage from filling the oil?
The cap screws on very easily so might give the impression it’s not on tight.
Best is to clean it and see if more gathers

I tend to agree, more likely to be overspill. Give a clean with brake cleaner or similar and see if it comes back again.

OP,

This not meant to be funny.
I'm thinking since you said you have tightened and re-tightened the cap more than a few times, right ???
Time to visit your favorite Audi Dealership's (Parts-Department) or order a New-Oil-Filler-Cap On-Line.

I’ve cleaned it all up and will monitor it although I can see a small gap on between the cap and engine casing and when I press down this gap is closed.

If it continues I’ll try a new cap. Thanks all

Keep us posted.
There isn’t a huge amount of pressure under the cap unlike a radiator cap so even loose there shouldn’t be much coming out of there.
It’s one thing in 20+ years of driving I have never had to replace so always go for the obvious first like spillage.

Mine clicks into place securely. Is the rubber missing/perished? I would get a new one.

its oil seepage, mostly oil fume..... faulty cap design which is also happening on golf mk7 Gti/R.....most of the guys got revise design oil cap and some of them got O-rings which cover the neck of oil cap, it worked.

Ah, glad I’m not alone!!! When you say a revised oil cap design, is that just a case of purchasing a new oil cap from Audi?

Cheers.

Hey buddy just go On-Line or to your Audi Dealer's parts department and get a New Oil Cap.

You will be all set !!!

WARNING, if you order on-line be damn sure it's actually an OEM Audi part.

Yeah, when I sent my car at the Audi workshop they said it's normal happened in other cars as well.
I got the O-rings and since then there's hardly oil seepage surrounding oil cap.

An o-ring will sort it as detailed here over on the Golfmk7.com forum.

I've just ordered a pair of these Viton o-rings at 44.17mm ID x 1.78mm C/S for my S3 and Amarok, same oil cap on both vehicles. They are showing oil around the cap even though I cleaned them with brake cleaner. Poor design VAG who should have used an o-ring to properly seal the cap.

Anyone has ordered redesign oil cap, someone mentioned to try new VW Tiguan engine oil cap which is slightly higher like Audi RS3 engine oil cap.

i have ordered these same cap from aliexpress last month, hope it will stop oil seepage.
Did you get the cap and neck? I think the new cap has a different fitting to the one I took off so it wont be a direct replacement without the neck. I know that the cap I took off definitely doesn't fit on the neck

I just got the delivery today, will try to see if the only cap fit or not coz the back of cap is different.

I also bought the rubber sealant for OEM cap, will try that first n see if that would help in stopping oil seepage.

The original cap definitely won't fit without the neck. I prefer it with the neck, makes putting oil in easier
