On 10th October 2019 at 13,430 miles my 2017 my 1.5 TFSi had its first Inspection with Oil Service.

Two days ago the MMI has first indicated its due an Inspection Service in 28 days’ time; the current mileage is 17,827.

So that will be approx. 4,500 miles between services (mileage is down on what I usually drive due to working from home etc during Covid-19).

(You might say that the reason a service *is* required is due to the short journeys we’ve taken and with the only the very occasional longer one mixed in); has anyone else found themselves in a similar situation and if so what was Audi’s response?

Sounds like you are on flexible servicing, as I do low miles I'm on fixed. Done even less this year with lock down and with being on furlough since mid March (go back next week). I had my 2nd service done last year on the 29th October @ 6,573 mile as you can see here:

I've just been out to the car and it's on 8,340 so I've only done 1,767 miles since that service and they will mainly be short trips, yet the MMI is showing next oil change in 77 days, which is the 28th October ( a full year later):

EDIT* Just read your post again, it's asking for an inspection service again, that's done every 2 years! Mine was done last year and you can see from my mmi it's not due until next year! Just wondering if they reset your mmi correctly??? Inspection is just look and check!

You did 13,430 mile in 2 years. You should be on fixed servicing!

As @S32B says. It's just for them to give it a once over/health check.If you are happy keeping dealer history then go and get it done..At least then you can ask what service schedule is set on your car and ask them what might be best suited for the amount of driving you do?? Personally if it was my car I would put it on 'fixed' servicing ie every 12 months.:icon thumright:

Thanks for the replies fellas so you obviously think it is worthwhile sticking to the service schedule, and to should be on Fixed, even though the mileages between them are very low. My next Oil Change Inspection is due in 393 days; but I wonder if I should wait until that one?

I could just contact Audi first but am hoping for a consensus of opinion before I do.

(In two weeks time it is already booked it for its first MOT, brake fluid change (recommended as it approaches three years old) and air condition service. I could always ask them then).

I think they have not reset you inspection properly, inspection should be year 2 and year 4. Phone them up and ask! But if you are doing under 10k a year you should be on fixed servicing anyway.

The first brake fluid change is due after 3 years (it's every 2 years after that). My guess is that it's prompting you for that, and that in 28 days time the car will be 3 years old. The service indicator just has "inspection" and "oil", so won't have a specific entry for brake fluid.

The inspection will be due be every 2 years I think, regardless of whether you're on fixed or variable servicing.

The oil change is every 12 months on fixed or up to every 2 years on variable (assuming you don't reach mileage/usage limits first).

FWIW I do fairly low mileage (8000 or 9000 a year normally), and I've had mine on variable throughout with oil and inspection every 2 years (always due on time for both, not mileage). But brake fluid is a year out of step with that because of the initial 3 year thing, so it's brake fluid one year, then oil and inspection the next, repeated every 2 years.

"oil change" and "inspection" are 2 different things, although they can occur at the same time.
You cannot have a situation where an inspection is due 11 months after the previous one.
Are you maybe getting the terminology confused a wee bit?
If you had an inspection with oil change in October 2019 then the most it can be needing next month is simply an oil change.

You're right that technically an "inspection" can't be due 11 months after the previous one. However you're not right that "the most it can be needing next month is simply an oil change"; it can be needing a brake fluid change.
And given that the service display doesn't have an entry for brake fluid, and only has oil and inspection, it's perfectly possible that they set the "inspection" flag to come on when the next non-oil change work was due (ie brake fluid), and that after changing the brake fluid they'd set inspection to be due in a further 13 months (ie 2 years after the previous actual inspection service).

While it is possible like you say....I would be amazed if a dealer took the time and care to specifically set things up like this. :openmouth:
Experience has shown that not correctly resetting service reminders is very common across all dealers.
Don't forget that brake fluid is an optional item on the service schedule that is in addition to the cost on the day, although it will normally be included in a service plan.

The dealer wouldn't do it manually I agree, but the Audi system could easily have a script which sets the appropriate parameters automatically. I've got a vague half-memory that they might have done this for mine on its first service, and that it reported needing another inspection after 12 months as I drove away, but that was 5 years ago so I'm not 100% sure.

Since it's been out of warranty I've serviced it myself, and definitely have done that trick myself, manually, using VCDS to get it to prompt for when my air filter needed changing.

First service I had when I had the S3 they told me the car was ready for collection, I went down, paid and got in the car, looked at the mmi and it was showing that the service was due!!! Went back in and the guy on the service counter was slightly embarrassed to say the least!....Then chap with a laptop came out and sorted it. Since then I used an indy and never had a problem, he does an inspection on any service as standard as well...no extra charge.

I had a very similar experience at my first service....
Mine was a stock car and was 3 months old before it was registered for me but the service countdown was not reset, so I waited till a year old to have my first service even though oil change reminder was showing 3 months overdue.
All this was explained and cleared beforehand but it would mean that the inspection would need to be reset so that it was one year from the oil change.
When booking my car in I made sure to mention the inspection countdown would need to be reset to the correct time. I was waiting for my car and when I got it back you can predict what I found - inspection still showing as due in 9 months. :rage:
Cue guy with laptop just like you.......
