Chinese carplay unit success in B8 with MMI 3G basic

Try going into the first menu on the left, selecting connected devices, you should see your phone, highlight disconnect, select it, then just select connect, should get the wireless connect box on the screen straight away.

Read this whole thread and am willing to living with the small imperfections, but the real challenge is getting your hands on a set!

Purchased a set yesterday with the provided link but the seller is refusing to ship it. He said to many people had problems with the 3G Basic. So I had to cancel my order.

Does anyone else have a idea or solution?
 
I spoke to the seller a little while back, he said he had far to many people raising claims as the units were not working correctly on the 3G basic

Eventually went for the Unique Auto kit. Cost a bit more. But worth it!

Service was excellent. Instructions were clear and everything is working perfect on my 3G Low/Basic MMI.

Just joining in! My sat nav has stopped being able to calculate routes for some reason so tempted to buy something like this! This one looks complicated though, I think using the original screen is pretty fool proof right have you got a link to the one you used bud??

I'm thinking of getting the one with the screen which you mentioned. Have you heard anything about them? If I get the other, I have the mmi with the two sd slots, dvd and knob with nav, which one is this bud?
 
Just checked, I've for the basic. So be better to get the one with the larger screen right??
 
Just bought and installed this one on my Audi A4 Allroad B8 2011 MMI 3G basic: https://a.aliexpress.com/_dYt3iAe

Right now it’s working like a charm, some issues with the sound that sometimes comes out from the iPhone, but if I open Music it starts working. Can toggle between normal MMI and the box. Also comes with an hdmi port, I can plug whatever I like. It cuts a little bit in the top screen, but nothing problematic.
 
Lol, I had a prior error with the parking system (no visual indication of the sensors on the MMI and a long beep) and I’m Waiting for a vagcom to check the errors. So I can’t confirm if it works yet.

No worries, are able to post the details of your software version of the unit?
 
Ok mines here, first of the noddy questions. Do I need to splice the power and camera & reverse lines in?
I've an OEM rear camera, do I plug my cam into this or leave it where it is?
(just wait for removal keys as mine have vanished, so haven't had a look in)

I notice now it has a front camera input anyone used this?
Also anyone used the HDMI in?

Hi, leave factory camera as it is and change it in setup menu.

I've got a front camera installed, does the job but only activates for a predetermined amount of time after sensors turn off or you press the parking button
 
I ordered the system from aliexpress which reuses the audi screen from your link Boundy, (I have MMI 3G basic), but the seller is also asking me for type and system info of the MMI. (as feared)

Was kind of hoping he would just send it, no questions asked...
Is there any difference in cabling between the HNAV system and my BNAV?

The low resolution screen of the BNAV can cause issues, it's hit or miss if it will display the picture correctly. I've swapped mine out for a HNAV, it plays much better with the front and rear cameras. Loom is almost the same between basic and high, only the screen connector is different and that easy sorted with a Stanley knife

thanks, so you used the same system you ordered for BNAV, the other way round in my case should be just a matter of cutting a small piece of plastic of the connector, right? I found another site which looks like it ships the same unit... just wondering if I should cancel the ali order and place the order there... I'd rather not have to do any modification, but okay...

You only need to modify the loom if changing the MMI system, this add on kit will plug straight in, no wires need to be cut
 
okay, but in case of receiving the "wrong" Andream unit with cables made for MMI 3G+, it will not fit straight in the regular MMI 3G?
Or was the only stanley cutting done in your specific case to retrofit the MMI plus system? Sorry if I misunderstood.

I don't have any parking camera fitted and not planning on installing those, so I think I will be fine with the low res screen. Just have to get the seller on aliexpress to send me what I paid for... :)

There isn't a 'wrong' unit, they are all pretty much the same from seller to seller, its normally only software that separates them. Looms will fit the range of cars.
Only need to modify the video cable when changing MMI screens, they have different colour plugs for the differing resolutions, the colour indicates small differences in the internal shape, as per this chart.

The piggyback systems comes supplied with a split Lvds cable that has the 'Z' type plug fitted, this is a universal fit, designed to plug into all the other Lvds cables above.
 
What can you recommend for MMI 3G Basic/Low ?
Android Auto Box or Android Head Unit ?
Do you have any experiences with Android Head Unit ?

Wireless AA seems to be a bit hit or miss.

As mentioned last night I've just picked up a 2010 S4 Avant.

I beleive I have the 3g high hnav system (joystick for the mmi, 2 SD card slots, dvd player and when checking system serial number it states hnav)

I've read the whole post and I think Ive just confused myself.

The original link by boundy states seller won't ship to my location (UK).

Im a little confused as to what system I have in terms of symphony concert etc. Does this matter?

You answered your own question before you asked it, you have neither symphony or concert, you have 3G High
