hello,
My DMF is toast and the repair shop quoted 220 euros to repair and 70 euros to resurface it with the basket + a new clutch disk so i'm looking around 400 euros which i unfortunately can't afford.

The same shop proposed me to convert my DMF to a SMF which comes down to 100+70 for the resurface but i'd have to buy a clutch disk with springs in it.

Anyone got a part number for a 240mm clutch disc with springs that would fit my 6 speed (23 teeth)?

Can i find a 240mm SMF at the junkyard from another car (potentially saving the 100 euros to convert mine)? i heard the 1.9tdi's used a 240mm with the same bolt pattern

Would a 228mm SMF from a g60 fit?

i'd like to hear some options guys cause i don't really know all that much so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had a smf and it was a bit noisy on idle as you get a bit of vibration have gone back to dmf

I'd love to keep the vibrations down but i simply can't afford to repair my DMF or even buy a new one that's why i'm looking to convert to a SMF because it's much cheaper

Any help guys.... i really need to get this done

Audi A3 fwd SMF is OK.
Audi A3 quattro SMF will chatter if too light.

I was thinking of going down the lightened SMF route but after a little research found its not advisable on the quattro and most people go back to DMF.

Good example of what flywheel chatter sounds like.

That is a terrible noise. No way would I go smf. What are the benefits of it anyway?

A lighter wheel takes strain off the engine and allows the engine to rev more freely, because of less weight the engine is able to release more power. The overall weight loss to the car is really not the key thing, it's letting the engine vary RPM quickly.

Being able to change RPM quickly can mean faster shifts, getting to a power band more quickly, etc. It also makes the car much more twitchy to drive since it doesn't like low RPM very much. At low RPM the lower mass of the flywheel means you need to use the throttle to keep the RPM above where the flywheel isn't going to carry things around as well.

Mine was no way near as bad as that but you could hear the difference when you press the clucth, none of my passenger could notice it but I could

I don't think the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch kit is suitable because its smaller and normally used on the 5 speed boxes, is your car a 6 speed fwd?
