Opinions of Stage 2 on Pre-Facelift RS3

I too had a DTUK box on my Golf R and as you say, it was actually brilliant. I had that and a pedal box too. Was quite surprising at times.

With regards to tuning boxes on the RS3, I too have the same experience as what you did! It just doesn’t seem to like it and it doesn’t feel right if I’m being entirely honest. I do have the Bluetooth app and they’ve sent me some new map files to try.

So would you advise a strong case for a stage 1 MRC on the PFL? I was thinking about adding a cooler now too although it isn’t a necessity. I was looking at APR as they produce more torque than any of the other off the shelf maps. But you reckon MRC is the way to go? What additional hardware did you have on the car and what figures did the car acheive? I have a intake pipe and panel filter plus secondary decats, so with a cooler I’m sure it would be much better. For a £1000 do you get a Tcu tune aswell?
I just had stage 1 and the secondary decats. I wouldn’t even bother with an intercooler. Try it without first unless you’re someone who really rags their car. £1000 will include TCU tune.

Hmm...2.9s?!

I want to see the rest of that answer!

It’s related to the Darkside tuning box video.
Go read it on FB.

I found that statement quite funny.

People spending ££££’s on Stage 2/3 when all you need is a DTUK box to go 2.9

I have a PFL with APR stage 1, intake pipe and a forge front mount intercooler. Very pleased with it. It has transformed the car. I would certainly recommend it.

My old car was a TT RS 8J and that was mapped by MRC. You will be pleased with either tuning company. :)

So you’d advise to go with MRC stage one without cooler? I know it saves a lot of money but wouldn’t you get a lot better figures with one? I like how MRC do the Tcu tune aswell so that you can have loads of torque, appeals to me more with how much torque gains their maps give.

Nice!! What figures did you acheive? It’s definitely between Apr or MRC but I’m swaying more to MRC because of having the Tcu tune to provide more torque, that’s what makes a map for me!

On the QST dyno where it was done it made 430bhp. On another dyno it made 440bhp so you have to go with the higher reading don't you :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

You’re going to get about 20hp and a bit of extra torque. But is it worth more than doubling your outlay if you’re not going to thrash the car everywhere? For now I’d go for just stage 1 and see what you think.

I’ve emailed them and they just got back to me saying I’d expect 400-420bhp and only 540-560nm!?!?!? I was expecting a lot more torque???

Yeah sounds logical bud. But I’ve just had an email from them and what they’ve quoted really doesn’t seem to be very good!?

Think they’ve quoted the previous RS3! MRC got me 430hp and 630nm.

Yeah she said she’d quoted wrong and that she quotes lower figures so you’re not disappointed haha. How do you reckon it will compare to the tuning box then with similar figures your car achieved?

I think you need to find someone near you who has a proper stage 1 tuned car and see if they’ll take you out in it.
Quoting figures is pretty meaningless. All I can keep saying is that it will be a major step up from stock and a tuning box.

Where are you based?

Nottingham chap. I’m currently emailing Sarah anyway to get booked in!

I have a feeling it’s going to be a bigger difference than I think, compared to stock and the tuning box. Where abouts are you from anyway bud?
Not too far from you in Warwickshire.
The difference will be mind blowing.

So I’ve just booked in with MRC for the 22nd August!

Would have liked it to be sooner but that’s the earliest Saturday they had!

The tuning box really doesn’t cut it does it.

I've been running a Revo Stage 1 for over a year 2016 RS3. I haven't had it on a rolling road but it feels faster with more torque than when it was standard on the road even though VMax 200 event timing showed it wasn't any faster than a standard delimited PFL RS3.

I've decided to keep the car for a few years until I see something I would like to replace it with so I was thinking about upgrading to Revo Stage 2.

Now the Stage 2 PFL has been out for a while I was wondering if it was worth the upgrade over a Stage 1 and how does it effect day to day driving.

Here is a rough costing for Stage 2:-
Audi RS3 8V EVO3 Competition Intercooler Kit non ACC £1,385.00
Milltek Exhaust AUDI RS3 Sportback (8V MQB) 2015-2018 - SSXAU587 £1,062.53
Revo Air intake £478.8
Remap £60

Total parts cost £2,986.33 ex-fitting

It looks expensive when comparing it to FL RS3 producing around same quoted power with only a remap.

I went straight to stage 2 recently so it's difficult for me to comment on a stage 1. Figures I was told were around 440/450bhp and 530lbs ft torque (car hasn't been dynod) MRC map.

The torque is really good, pushes you back in the seat now. I'm pretty happy with it, need to drive it a bit more to appreciate it. I have forge intercooler, HG intake pipe, K&N drop in, HPFP and BSC downpipe with sports cat.

Nice, similar to what I was told figures wise. Is your friend happy with the car?

Ecstatic is the word he used.

However...........he’s found the OEM brakes now wanting a little so that’s his next upgrade, quite rightly in my opinion.

The shove of torque so low down is funny. I had it in drive in 7th gear about 40mph then used kickdown. I thought the car was going to do a wheelie ha ha

I agree giving the car a stage 1 or stage 2 tune gives better usable day to day performance with the low down torque.

I would recommend fitting Revo discs with pads. They give better stopping performance with no beak squealing unlike the OEM ones which suffer.
On mine the OEM discs and pads only lasted 15k miles before they needed changing.
