Hi guys,

I bought the below kit with their rear camera:

https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/com...t-for-audi-a4-a5-a6-q7-mmi-2g-high-2005-2009/

https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/dir...ing-camera-for-audi-a4-a5-s5-q5-b8-2008-2016/

The install has been smooth but Im struggling with getting the rear camera working. When selecting reverse the display does not switch therefore the Car Play unit doesn't appear to be getting Reverse gear selection signal (even though the Car Play unit has a CAN gateway pass through)
With VCDS I enabled Rear Cam in the CAN gateway installed list in a hope the CarPlay unit will get the signal but no joy.

I emailed support and they sent this:

https://unique-ad.co.uk/general-usa...o-add-aftermarket-camera-to-idcore-interface/

Using the manual gearbox method I was able to get the camera working but I got further issue:

The display cycles between on and off when in Reverse (as CAN voltage is fluctuating from reverse light), workaround they suggest to install a 4 pin relay - But I wanted to avoid this as there must be a method to get a reliable signal for Reverse?

Any suggestions?

Cheers
Bobby

I should mention my car has a MMI 2G high system - Nav box in boot, 6 disc changer and AMI interface in the glovebox

Not gonna be much help unfortunately but have never had any luck with reversing cameras on these boxes, to the point of where I will no longer accept installations where there is a camera involved. I don’t supply the kit but customers bring do them to me in order to fit and no two instructions have ever been the same.

The box you have is a rebranded unit from China. In my experience the company will unfortunately stop giving you support / communicating after a couple of emails. Their quad lock adaptors are also a common point of failure :(

Thanks for the reply - I totally agree with you.
Worst case I will add the 4 pin relay I guess.

While you are here can I asked if I can replace my low res MMI2G display with a MMI3G high res panel?

Cheers

I don't know about 2G to 3G high, but I changed from 3G low to 3G high. It was easy to change the parts and didn't cost that much.

MMI 3G high main unit - £110
MMI 3G high rotary controller - £35
7" higher resolution screen - £17
7" dash trim - £10
Component Protection removal - £40

=£212 in parts
Sold old parts for £82
Total = £130 out of pocket costs.

I've also got the android auto / carplay add-on kit from China that cost me - £135
Plus rear camera - £12
Plus front camera - £16

So for less than £300 I've added alot of functionality to my system with wireless Android Auto and wireless Carplay, with front and rear cameras, half decent resolution screen and faster factory nav and the option Google maps, ect.

And even after all of that, my favourite add-on is being able to close the power tailgate with internal door switch or the key fob, it's the simple things

With a bit of work, a few have done it, I considered it but the cost of the plus units was nor worth it for me

So far, my experience with a UAD CarPlay kit and reversing camera have been totally positive. My circumstances aren't the same as @bobby singh (I have DSG gearbox and MMI3G+) but for me, the camera interface has worked seamlessly from the outset, and any time I've had a query, I've received a helpful answer.

I think the 2g high solution from them is pretty new so maybe a firmware update in the future might improve this. In the meantime I will have to run a relay to get a steady video feed.

I had to add a 4 pin relay to my reverse camera on my RSnav unit as I was having the same issue as you. It was straight forward and I haven't had any issues since.

I ended up returning the unit it wasn't for me. Im looking for a more OEM solution so might consider MMI 3G plus in the further.

Cheers
