Hiya fellas, new here and just wondering if anyone could help me with looking for FAQ about a head unit for my a3, im looking to get a head unit with apple carplay for my A3 8P 57plate, although i'm not sure if its possible in an old reg like mine, any help is much appreciated. cheers

The world is your oyster when it comes to aftermarket head units. Check out the halfrauds website for ideas. Personally I have a 06 A3 with standard HU. Been wanting to change it for sometime but cannot make my mind up on what to get...
I think I read too many reviews...

check out some of the pioneer units on caraudiodirect. if you call them with questions they are very helpful and really know their stuff.

This is Pioneer SPH-DA130DAB on my 55 plate A3. Totally worth it and beats the RNS-E by millions of miles.

I have the same unit fitted in mine, don’t think it’s too complicated but my father in law fitted mine for me.

This unit isn’t wireless but I had the USB fed through to the glovebox so there’s no messy wires visible.

My friend has one of these in his BMW E39 and I was very impressed with it, for the price I don't think you can do any better!

Indeed. It hits the sweet spot. Or did.

Looking at the Pioneer website, I see there are some new additions of the CarPlay head units and finally there’s 6.8” and 8” screens. Yay!

However annoyingly wireless CarPlay has been reserved for the navigation units still. Oh well...

In my case I had to enlist help from a pro. That because I had to do a single to double DIN conversion too! If you have a double DIN setup (2008-12 models) then it’s a straight forward job. Just make sure you get the correct adapters.

My car is a 57 but I believe I have a double din?

Yup. You’re one of the lucky ones! If you trace to my posts you’ll see a couple of posts that will give you links to the adapters, steering control module and fascia.

Thought so haha, I’ve got the adaptor and fascia ordered, just browsing different units for best vfm at the moment cheers :)

Bare in mind, not all Pioneer H/U have Apple and Android functions.
I bought me GF one last year and I informed them that I wanted Android Auto and unfortunately they installed an entry level unit that only did Apple car play. They did exchange it though with a discount.
IMO, you might want to order one with both. You may only ever use Apple/Android for as long as you own the car, but if you sell it on to someone with the opposite brand of phone, the headunit is much less functional and may put them off buying it.

What about MFSW integration and parking sensor screen, meaning when reverse is in you get the parking sensor screen?

MFSW is supported, as long as you buy the correct fitting solution for your car.

I don't think there is a way to replicate the parking sensor display on screen. You can buy some fitting solutions from the head unit manufacturer which does replicate, but they're few and far between off the top of my head.

For example, on mk6 golf platform some Alpine head units will replicate the heater and parking sensor display.

Update to this: I have now installed a head unit and it’s working. The problem is the head unit has 8 wires for speakers, 2 for each door, and the car only seems to have 4 wires to connect too.

Have you used the correct fitting solution for your car?

The head unit has 8 wires as it is designed to run 4 speakers directly. However, depending on which audio system you have from factory, you will have a partially or fully amplified system that you'll need to integrate into with the correct harness.

The only way to get all speakers running from the head unit would be to manually wire each door but then your subwoofer would stop working as would the centre speaker.
