Hi All,

Am i right in believing the black edition comes with an upgraded sound system ? Is this the case on 20 plates or was it previous models ? If so whats the quality of the sound like please ?

Thanks

The black edition used to come with B&O on the B8 A4. Unfortunately not anymore.

It comes with 360 degree cameras and multi colour interior; plus the de-cromed exterior and piano black interior.

That's where the £££ premium goes.

If you are leasing (PCH) there are / were deals out there. It is / was cheaper to get a S-Line or Black Edition with comfort and sound pack for £7 a month more than it was to get either model and self-option C+S for full price, at circa £45 a month. These were / are deals funded by Lex Autolease via brokers.

You get these included only on the Vorsprung Edition, not on the Black Edition. For the BE its an extra £1.5k or so to get the comfort and sound pack which includes 360 cameras, multi colour LEDs etc

As mentioned earlier you need the Comfort & Sound Pack adding to the Black Edition to get the Bang & Olufsen sound system. Overall the pack at around £1500 represents good value considering Audi's 'normal' extortionate pricing. You also get all round camera, keyless entry and extended LED interior lighting on 2020 models. The interior LED lighting is very pleasurable for night driving, most other cars look positively boring.

As for the sound quality of the B&O it's good, but not outstanding considering the number of speakers, I was expecting more from the sound. It lacks oomph in the bass even with the sub turned up, the sound generally is flat and not very open. If you have good source FLAC files it can sound very good but the mark of a good system is to make even poor sounding sources sound resonable.

Most folk would find the standard system good, but if you like a good sound system in your car you have to go for it, anything less and you'll find yourself asking the question should I have gone for it.

Sound is flat, no base or depth, That is the standard 10 speaker system. Its the sorta sound quality you would find on, say a, Ford Fiesta or A seat leon. It’s okay, you can enjoy music but it’s just “meh”. The sound just seems to emanate from the speaker up on the dash. Very flat.

The B&O System is good, but it’s not great. Compared to past Audi’s, this B&O is probably less quality than the Bose you’d get on an older Audi A6.

Audi’s generally excelled with sound quality even from standard speakers compared to Rival BMW’s and Mercedes. However it seems like these newer cars have cheapened out.

^^^ Purely a subjective opinion. I had the Black Edition A4 B9 with the non-B&O speakers and was more than happy with the sound quality. Ditto with my current A6 Black Edition (C8).

I've currently got a 2019 a8 with the bang and olufsen 3D premium sound upgrade, now that sounds brilliant, I honestly think that the 2016 Leon cupra I had before my 18 plate s4 had a better sounding sound system

I remember a friend had a brand new Audi coupe in the mid 80's and a trip to Cornwall with a Blaupunkt system which was the Audi standard supply. By today's standards it probably sounded lame but at the time ****** brilliant.

The current B&O in the Audi 2020 A4 should sound better, it has all the right credentials with a prominent name, 19 speakers, sub, dashboard and A pillar speakers. But it sounds....well just dull, no sparkle, no oomph, they should have done a better job. Frankly I'm surprised B&O put their name to it. I should imagine the A8 version is a different beast altogether.

I had a Skoda L&K Superb for my last car with the Canton upgrade system and that sounded much better. It lacked a little overall bass and had fewer speakers but made up for it with a clear upfront open midrange with wonderful separation and a crystal clear top end. It was like listening to the big rig at home, a real pleasure to use.

Night and day difference between my 8V A3 with B&O and my S4 B9 with ***. *** is just terrible, incredibly flat like somebody else mentioned above. It's the one thing I regret about the car.

I have the comfort and sound in my Black Edition (Rear Camera, Extended LED, B&O). The sound is a massive improvement on non B&O but it is not as sharp as a previous 2008 B8 A4 which had B&O. Some have said there is insufficient base, the kids have asked me to turn the base down as it is too much for them in the back. I think it isn't quite as crisp as the previous one but I'm more than happy with it. The extended LED and rear camera are both great though. The camera can be changed to look at rear alloys, front alloys, front, rear or birds eye. Its an incredible bit of tech that will protect your rims :)
