Evening all,

So I was driving down the m1 tonight, all of a sudden my car lost power (limb mode) ans the coil light and engine management light.

I got it home and scanned it to find P0204 power train code Injector 4.

Could somebody point me to where to start? I was thinking stick some Injector cleaner in and see what happens?

Regards
James

I would try that but maybe a injector flush with liqui moly, Google for how to's, inline filter & see if it helps as the fuel tank flush way isn't really that great.

Did the fault give anymore information?

Injector 4 was a problem on my old Golf, but I never got around to fixing it. Also the wiring harnesses are prone to failure

Not really, scanned with another scanner and said.

P0204 Injector stuck open, cylinder 4.

I am assume that to mean injector 4 either clogged up with gunk or is nackered.

I'm guessing if I do the diesel purge I should see the gunk in the mason jar, is that how it works?

Diesel purge just generally cleans the injectors / fuel systom, could be completely ****.
The wiring harness itself is built into the head so you normall have to take the cover of anyway. I'd look for any obvious signs like broken connectors or dodgy wiring. Incase it's been giving a poor signal causing build up in the injector

If not, then pull the injector, maybe try cleaning it using the DIY approach (Electrical Contact Cleaner + 12V Battery + Switch). It could be that your injector needs a rebuild. Or could just be caked up with ****.

You won't really know without looking at it.

OK tried the diesel purge and didn't do anything, injectors were clean.

How do I go about taking an injector out? Can I just unbolt the one I want and remove it ?

Kind regards
James

Normally, they're usually held in by socket caps, I never did the injectors on my old Golf so couldn't tell you

Usually it's a case of popping the head cover off, removing the socket caps, disconnecting the electrics, and then pulling out the injector possibly with a slide hammer if needed

Injector failure on the 1.6TDi is a common problem. Most often the coil goes short-circuit. You can try cleaner but don't hold your breath.
These injectors usually come out fairly easily, although you need to release them in pairs - each clamp secures two injectors.
The wiring is not inside the valve cover on the 1.6TDi, it's a common-rail diesel. Only on the earlier PD engines is the wiring under the valve cover.
There are often refurbished injectors on ebay, check your part number marked on the top of the injector. You will need a new copper seal too.
The new injector will need to be coded to the car, you can do this with VCDS. Ensure that your new or refurb injector comes with a code.
