I have a 2002 A3 1.8T sport I've owned it 16 years and it has just under 77k mile on the clock, leather interior etc, last mot no advisories. I had neglected it a bit last few years possibly needs new windscreen for next mot, technically a cambelt due (I had it replaced twice since Ive owned it), passenger window regulator gone. Anyway some ******* decided to nick the catalytic converter last week, so it needs that replaced a new lambda sensor and wiring and down pipe was quoted £457.

Car seems too good to scrap to me but may be I'm a bit to attached to it, I don't have space to break the car myself, should I just bung it on ebay any cheaper way to fix the cat ?
Cheers

Sort the bits out and keep it just look for a better price on the parts.

Depends how much you like it. Personally I really like e46 coupes. And sent my last one to scrap and instantly regretted it. If my s3 ever breaks down badly I would park it up and slowly rebuild what I could

If your mechanically minded..... get the parts yourself, new or secondhand and fit them yourself. Sometimes as the list gets longer people get overwhelmed with it and do what your thinking about doing by selling it on. I’ve done this myself with a previous car and instantly regretted it.

Thanks for that will look into it, would it pass mot with it? This is what they did, lamba sensor and wires damaged, would I need to replace that on a decat?

@MrGreen they cut the cat out and that 'pipe' is the wiring loom sheath for the o2 sensor which they most likely nicked with the cat, they must have been desperate because 1.8t cats are not worth as much as the Toyota ones they usually target.

As for MOT, just go to someone you know and slip them a drink and no one will raise any eyebrows. If you go to an above board MOT station then expect to get pulled up on it, otherwise you will be fine as majority of MOT garages do not really care about this as they got bigger fish to fail and fry.

Yeah no idea why they did mine, may be easy target due to where I parked. Car was loaded up for trip to the dump when they did it, I had to drive it like that, only few miles but noisy haha
