Well my Pirelli tyres have gone to tyre heaven.
I’ve a 19 plate rs3 sport edition with staggered set up, the car is 11 month old with 10k miles on the clock.
When I bought it and joined this forum I clocked a lot of posts about the inside wear on the Pirelli tyres so thought I would keep an eye on mine, anyway I sort of put it to the back of my mind, the car had its firs service 4 weeks ago at Audi and they sent a vid of the inspection.... all good as they informed my that one rear tyre was on just under 4ml of tread on fronts on 5, and that’s all they pointed out to me.
Cut a long story short.. kerbed a alloy and had it fixed yesterday, went to pick it up and the lad said your tyre is shot on the inside, said it’s splitting open.
Anyway I had 4 new mich. PS4’s put on today on a 235 square set up.
Took some pics of the tyres... so if anyone can help...
1 when it was serviced and the inspection done at a Audi dealer rate, even if the metel wasn’t coming through the tyre there would of been a huge sign of wear on the inside ( around 600 mile from service to me being told it was shot). Why did Audi not see this, I mean I have a vid of the mechanic with the car on the ramps showing me the tread depth. Is it a case of I’m paying over the odds for a inspection that they haven’t done or is it a case of they know the issues with these tyres, the cars less than a year old so if it’s brought to light and I kick off it’s gonna cost someone a set of new tyres.... would you go in to the dealers and ask why this wasn’t noticed?
2 anyone with the same issues that have swapped to mich PS4’s, have you had any more inside tyre wear on a different brand?
Dunno if it’s car setup or Pirelli tyre prob

TIA for any feedback

I switched to Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports in April 2019.
Tyres are great and no uneven / shoulder wear at all.

I didn’t have the issue with the Pirelli’s though.

Did you change your Pirelli’s to Goodyear when there was tread left on them? Or were the Pirelli’s worn down?
Can’t understand why some pple have the issue and some don’t.
My main gripe is that when I’m paying Audi top dollar for a oil change and visual inspection that they could miss something as dangerous as shredded tyres

5 mm tread left on them.

The Goodyear were part of a ‘test’ for a marketing company.

Re: Audi Main dealers, I now avoid them like the plague, bunch of lying numpties.

Hopefully I won’t have issues with the PS4’s, I don’t fancy pulling out hundreds on tyres if it’s a set up fault on the car.
I’m going back to the dealers to hoy a few f***s into them as to why they didn’t notice shredded tyres

Best off swapping and doing your own thing.
No issues on Michelin’s for most.

Audi / Pirelli won’t be interested there’s countless cases of it but it’s not worth the hassle of banging your head against a brick wall.

Get the Michelin’s on and enjoy the car.

Aye, they on now, I’m still going down to Audi, Audi/Pirelli are gonna argue the toss whose Fault it is passing the buck between Each other but the mechanic has cocked up by not spotting it, they can’t get out of that one, I have the vid on my phone of him showing me the tread on the tyres, the least I want is it on the hunter to check it over at their cost
