Hi All,

I've got a December 2016 2.0tdi A4 Ultra and was looking to buy a service plan not long ago, however recently I have seen it is 20% off so I am even more tempted to get it.

It's £384 for my model which Includes 1 major and 1 minor service basically.

Minor being an oil change and a tyre kicking pretty much
Major however includes oil, fuel and pollen filters (possibly air filter too having contacted Audi UK)

I am trying to see if it's worth it and everyone's opinion? I was sold at first because a fixed price major service is £340 roughly.

However if I supply my own parts for oil changes it won't cost more than 45-50 pounds max (excluding labour).
If I do use the service plan it would be saved for the 70k and 80k services so they change all the filters included.

What does everyone think and is it worth it? Thinking of using indy servicing until this point but still not sure if it's good value for money. However also would like to care for my vehicle as it covers a lot of miles in different environments!

Thanks

Will you be keeping this vehicle or selling it on in a few years?

Dealer servicing helps a vehicle retain value somewhat over other garages, unless it's clear they're VAG specialists. I have grabbed servicing plans on my VW and Audi as it's a monthly cost (less bite when it needs a service) and I get the dealer stamp to retain warranty.

it can also help when outside of warranty if something goes wrong and you've got a book full of Audi stamps, you may get some goodwill.

YMMV.

I have one just for piece of mind, I had a service plan from the car being new but that only cost me £9.56 a month. Obviously I paying more now..

I intend to keep the vehicle as long as is financially feasible! Can clock up 15k miles a year easily though.

I am aware of goodwill gestures - fathers bmw 5 series gearbox fail at 59k miles only 2 months ago. Quoted 5k for this, new clutch needed and shock absorber as well. However due to him having many cars from them over the past 2o years they actually gave him new gearbox for free! Transmission is brand new now, still appalled it failed that early though - not a vehicle which is abused.

With my A4 the only foreseeable issues I can see are the clutch perhaps going before 100k which would be an expensive inconvenience.

Thanks guys, interesting responses.

Wow, that's a great deal! The current one works out at £21.33 over 18 months.

This is also what I am thinking (peace of mind). 80k seems like the biggest service with most filters etc needing changed, thought it would be wise to have a proper dealer service history around then.

Perhaps this might be able to help my decision, what would an oil change roughly cost for the A4 do you happen to know from experience if you don't my asking? I know the fixed interim is £170 ish. But just an oil change. I reckon I could get some local independents to do it all in for under £100, however that dealer stamp would be nice

My thoughts for mine would be to keep the dealer stamp with monthly costs for about 4 years. Then look for an indy specialist until such a time when I service it myself.

When I look for a vehicle I look for some dealer stamps, the more of those, the better. After that I look for recognisable indy stamps that show they are a specialist. For any vehicle over 100k, a FDSH is rare and can fetch a premium with the right buyer.

Mileage may vary but generally the dealer knows the car best and can suggest or perform preventative maintenance based on
manufacturer bulletins...

For circa £20/mnth with no large bill at service time, I think the plans are a no brainer if you're keeping the car.

Only we don't actually have dealer stamps anymore, just the electronic history. Thus any independent must have the access to this system to register that the service has been carried out..
