Hi guys,
I have a 2017 S5 that I will be collecting Tuesday. My current car is a seat leon Cupra, I used to have cont contact 6 on them but they are awful on a FWD car so I ripped them out and put Mitchlin PS4s on and they are AMAZING.

The S5 is AWD and comes with continentals, is it worth the upgrade to PS4S or Will the conts be sufficent?

Thanks

Ryan

Contis will be fine, but when the Potenzas my S5 came with run out I'll be going to PS4s as rate them a lot more.

Continentals, in my view, are poor - the rubber is way too soft. I've had 9k miles out of a set on a new 2018 A5 sportback S-Line. No harsh driving.

On other cars, you can't beat Michelin for miles. I once had 30k out of a set

For comfort and low noise, about 25k miles, I highly recommend the latest Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5.

I got 6,000 on the fronts and was down to 2-3mm

Yep, on a FWD they wore like butter. Swapped rear to the front and vice versa. Shocking mileage out of Contis. I'd never buy them again. If you read reviews online for the Contis on the A5 out of the factory (5 the version on a 2018 Sportback), they are not all that. Ok, nowhere near great for the money

Michelin were doing £100 off for 4 tyres. Not sure if it's still on.
Got my PS4S's 18 months and 15000 miles ago fro my S5 - still got 4.5mm of tread left. The OEM Hankooks were noisy and less grippy and total sh*t in the wet, and were down to 3mm by same distance.
Can't recommend them enough.

Has the price of tyres gone up during lockdown, sure I saw about 30% less when I first got my car in February.

Definitely gone up, looks about £20 or so (£140-160) for PS4s for my S5

Yep costco are doing £100 off for 4 https://www.costco.co.uk/tiresearch

Tyres

PS4S are the best tyres on the market for road use. I dont buy anything else. Unbeatable in the wet.
