Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 S3 8L, and my rear speakers and sub dont work. It's all non Bose stuff.

So, the original sub had been taken out, and replaced with ... nothing. From what I can gather this sub box has a built in amp that powers the rear speakers - is this correct? Also there is a plug for something close to the back of the where the sub box would sit, with nothing connected. I bought a used sub box of ebay to connect up to see if I could get the rear speakers working, to no joy.

And then the original headunit has been swapped out for a Sony at some point - I've pulled the rear out to expose the wiring harness - and there are some wires not connected.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to where to start with all this please?

Cheers,
Dave

What is it you want to do?. Do you want to revert to the original setup or just install a sub??. That head unit will probably have 4 amp output so will drive your rear speakers and quite possibly a sub output .
Manual is here and that radio has RCA outputs for the rear. and the normal 4 x55 watts output. So you could drive your rear speakers from the head unit and then use the RCA output to drive a sub.

Whatever is simplest really, I was hoping that popping the sub box in would be a plug and play solution, but it seems not. Ideally get the rears working as a minimum. Maybe I'll chin off that sub box and go with your method...

The sub is driven from the OE radio and those wires won't be connected to your existing radio. Assuming your car had the concert set up originally this would have been the wiring for the rear speakers / sub.

These 3 wires will provide the L and R outputs to the sub. I would expect they are probably line level. somebody with more experience could probably tell you if you could use the RCA output on the back of the radio to drive the factory sub.

Thanks for your help Desertstorm - I nipped to Halfrauds earlier, got some speaker wire and junction boxes and spliced it in from the HU. Rears are working great. No working sub, but I'm nearly 40 and have no need for bass in my life now haha
