A question for you chaps which may lead to another .

So what is the safe braking or stopping distance for a cyclist?

A cyclist is travelling at approx 30mph on a new up to date designed cycle, road or MTB / hybrid .
What will his safe stopping distance be without becoming an accident , two variables aswell.
1) dry road
2) wet road.

As a cyclist I would question why you would ask this question but I would also say there are variables here such as disc brakes or rim brakes or caliper brakes? Also as with cars there is no definitive braking distance as certain cars have different braking efficiency. If you bought an RS6 for example with carbon ceramics and tested against an A6 2.0 tdi with standard brakes I bet I could guess which would win. Same with bikes, the more you pay the Better the equipment you get.

Total distance including rider reaction time which could be upto 1.5 secs ontop of actual stopping distance/time, lets say with hope disks frt/rear.

Would you say that cyclist's using public roads for leisure cycling purposes are aware of braking distances under differing road conditions.

Also need to take into account the massive amount of different tyres you get on push irons, compound/width/pressure, along with the actual skill of the rider, I know I can stop a damn site quicker than an average car going around 30.

Another variable...….

No but I would say most drivers don't know the true stopping distance of their cars in all road conditions

On skinny road tyres you tend to use skin as a brake as I found to my peril doing 35mph downhill. About 60 feet stopping distance. Graphic images, sorry.
