Hi

My 2015 S3 (6 speed DSG) has just passed the 40k miles mark.

I have noticed that the gear box no longer changes from 3rd to 4th gear as smoothly as it used to.

When your foot is to the floor the gear change is just terrible. It is almost like the power cuts out and you are jolted forward before it finally engages into gear. it is very noticeable.

Interestingly if i shift from 3rd to 4th in manual mode with the paddles it shifts perfectly.

The rest of the gear changes in auto mode are silky smooth still.

Any ideas what this could be a sign of and what i can do to fix it? Do these cars require DSG services?

Thanks

If you haven’t had it done, do it as soon as possible as they will not give any warranty or goodwill if it isn’t done on time.

I replaced transmission fluid on mine A3 tdi 2.0 straight I got the car at 47.000 miles now I passed 60k and auto gear is still perfect after year...

As everyone has said get the dsg serviced. Make sure whoever does it gets the re-usable filter in the pump cleaned. Here's a pic to show the part I'm on about...

Pump on left has the dirty clogged filter.

Isn't that the haldex pump? Different to the DSG box?

That's the Gen5 Haldex pump. Supposed to be 38,000 miles oil change interval but they seem to need done at 10,000 - 15,000 miles. Audi don't take the pump out and clean the gauze filter either normally. Do it yourself or get an indy to do it.
The VAG oil is about £40 from Audi dealer or £36 from Skoda for exactly the same stuff.

Haldex is every 20000 miles. S tronic ( DSG ) is at 38000 miles.
Is my understanding anyway!

The lass at the dealer told me 35000 - 38000 miles. I wondered why there was a 3000 mile difference. Thought she may be talking rubbish. 20,000 sounds much more sensible.

Yep. Apologies to the OP for that mistake. :hopelessness:
Like you said though taking filter out to clean isn't covered in the Audi service schedule.

Right a little update. I have had the DSG serviced. I also had the technician reset gearbox. He said that everything was normal and he didnt notice any jerky. Probably because he was driving it gently and not flooring it like i do half the time haha.

The problem still remains on gear shifts 2 to 3 and 3 to 4. Under full throttle it jerks between these gears almost every time, its less frequent with less throttle. I am beginning to worry that it may be the mechatronic unit.

Occasionally if i floor it and it downshifts to 2nd gear it will hit the rev limiter and there is this huge delay in shifting to 3rd.

Has anyone else experienced this? Interestingly the gear changes are still smooth as butter in manual mode.

Thanks

Didnt someone else have this and it turned out to be a knackered haldex pump? The problem is that the rear wheels are not being engaged properly so it spins the fronts up confusing the DSG box in terms of what to do as it bounces off the rev limiter and / or deals with the traction control kicking in.

If you have not had the haldex filter cleaned then with 40 k on the clock I'd put money on the haldex pump being knackered. Audi will not have done this even if you ask them to service the haldex prior to that. They change the haldex oil but don't clean the filter at the same time.

If you are noticing a bit of torque steer on power at higher speeds that's a sign that the haldex is playing up too.

Just had the haldex service done. Problem still persists with it bouncing of rev limiter 2nd to 3rd gear. It is doing my head in.

Doesnt seem to happen unless my foot is planted all the down to kickdown switch so i might just learn to not do that.

also i have noticed in manual mode it sometimes upshifts by itself from 3rd to 4th if you floor it which is equally annoying.

might just take it to audi and see what they say.
