So I have a 2018 S3 bought from a dealer with 14k on the clock. Whilst filling it up yesterday, I noticed the black covering on the rear window surround trim peeling off to reveal the silver finish underneath. My question is, do all S3’s have black window trims? Somehow I doubt it’ll be covered under warranty if they do and mine is faulty. TBH if it’s faulty and I can just peel it off I’ll be happy, I just need to get it sorted before the car gets professionally detailed in 3 weeks.

Only black edition S3s and pre facelift S3s with the black package have black surrounds. Aluminium is standard on S3s. Even the black trims shouldn't peel as they are probably painted black

Unless it’s silver trim, and been wrapped black.

Which is what I did to my S7 :racer:

Yeah I think if it’s peeling the previous owner has probably had them wrapped.

Was it sold to you as a black edition?

No, not sold as a black edition. And the MyAudi states aluminium trim, so I guess From that it’s been wrapped.

ETA on another thread I was told black edition S3’s have black mirror caps, but mine are silver.

You could always put your VIN number in the MyAudi app to see what the car should look like.

And now I have removed the offending sticky-backed plastic (which I sort-of noticed when fitting some roof bars, and wondered at Audi’s declining quality control) and have my silver window surround back before th3 car heads off to be detailed.

indeed I can, I just didn’t (viewing on my phone) notice the difference :thumbs up:

ETA of course that has shown that the grille has been wrapped too. And that’ll be a bigger job to undo :-(. Hopefully a heat gun will loosen it enough, and I won’t have to (ask someone else to) take the grille off.
