Hi all! I took delivery of my first ever Audi, an S3 Black Edition in March, four days before lockdown. I love the car... just need to get a few more miles on the clock!

I agreed with the dealer that they would sell me a 24m servicing package for around £480, but this cannot be 'signed up' for until the car has done 1,000 miles. For the record, my annual mileage is only about 6,000 anyway, even without the lockdown.

My question is... is this package a worthwhile deal? What servicing costs am I likely to face over the next 3 years? Do you guys think that it'd be significantly cheaper to just pay for service as and when the car tells me that it needs one?

Thanks in advance :)

You will be on fixed annual servicing so will have 2 services in that time.
First service is oil and filter change, while second service also includes inspection.
As far as prices go it depends on which part of the UK you are in....London for example will have significantly higher costs.
An average price for first service would be around £200, but second service prices can vary considerably.
It is possible you could get it for around £280 in which case you would break even.
If I was you I would simply ask your dealer what they charge and base your decision on that.

By coincidence I am due my second service right now at 8300 miles but have no intention of going anywhere near the dealer, so have phoned them up and they said don't worry about it....just arrange it when it is possible and convenient due to the current situation. They added that they are currently servicing cars that are 3 months beyond their stated interval.

For context my first service at a main dealer in Cambridgeshire was £400 excl VAT
As far as I was aware the service plans they offer excludes S/RS models and engines bigger than 2.0. maybe that's chnaged.

At that price it sounds a pretty fair price.

Thanks both. I'm in Nottingham by the way.

There was an awful lot of confusion around servicing when I purchased the car (not helped by lockdown 1-week later). First they told me that I couldn't have a service package on a S3, then changed their minds when I said that another local dealer had offered me a package. I also asked how much to budget for annual servicing without a package and they were quite vague...

Looking at the wording it the email from them again, it's a "service plan at £468 for 1 x major and 1 x minor service or 2 years on a time basis". Seems a reasonable deal, but I need to commit (and pay soon) apparently.

I was quoted £400 for one service so signed up for the 2 services for £480 with the s3 which makes sense. After those 2 services are up I have no idea what the options are other than paying close to £400 each time. Audi servicing seems a lot more confusing than previous makes such as bmw where it was every 2 years and alternated between minor and major.

Agreed. I had a Golf GTI previously, and with that I paid extra at new for a 3x Major Service Package, for like £300 or something. Every 12 months, car went in for the works, no cash changed hands. Anyway, from what you've said it sounds like the package I have on the table from Sytner Audi is a reasonable one - thanks.

Just to clarify....the £400 for one service(or £480 in Adams case), this surely cannot be a first 12 month service from new...which is simply an oil and filter change?
The OP is asking about the first 2 annual services from new.
My first service cost £174, but I have no idea what the second one is going to cost.

It certainly was Ron, and was a similar quote for my S5! I never paid that but that is the price they gave me.

Absolutely extortionate Adam :dizzy: but I'm glad to hear you never paid it. :)

Not a bad deal tbh, my S3's 1st service with Audi was about £210 which means your 2nd service/inspection is about £270 with Audi.

Just found my old post from when my S3 was due its 2nd service:

At the time 2017:

Quotes so far:
Cheshire Oaks Audi: £365
Crewe Audi: £401.19
Liverpool Audi: £439.80, then they added air con service is due as well after 2 years @ £59.98
I went to an Audi specialist and got the lot for £220.

Thanks again everyone. It seems as though the consensus is that £468 for a major and minor within 24 months is a fair deal. I've just emailed the 3x staff members involved with the original deal... and will await a response. I'm under the impression that the Motor Trade, generally, went back to work yesterday.

Check that the 24m month servicing package is for fixed interval annual servicing and not long-life. Check the price of an oil change (1 yr) and an oil+inspection service (2 yrs) for cars over three years old. When dealing direct and pushed my dealer has always come close to this price. Pay much more and they are lifting your leg.
Three year service includes haldex and BFC.

Audi are doing service plans at 20% off at the moment.

Funnily enough, the Business Manager got back to my email today stating just that. Good that you've heard the same.

I'm expecting a call from the Service Manager tomorrow so hopefully can get signed up.

Great timing I nearly buy the service plan at £468 for my Q2 now down to £374 happy days .. that’s more comprehensive price..

£374 for two services, one minor one "Major" (adds pollen/cabin filter change and I think plugs) is about equivalent to a good independent, many of which are unable to update the elctronic service record, if that's important to you. I'd still prefer an indie to Audi, just because they're not trying to meet targets set by Audi** and I'm lucky enough here in leafy Bucks to have three within 10 miles. Unlike Audi those guys' living depends on satisfied customers going back.

**When I bought my car, the salesman explained that if I filled out the survey with anything less that 5 stars for everything, they we (financially) sanctioned. One of his customers gave 4 for something. He had to call her to find out why / apologise / grovel etc. Turned out that while the deal was being completed the internet / wifi dropped out for a minute or two , hence the 4 rather than 5 stars. He had to ask her to write and explain, so he could have the sanction removed.

Does anybody know exactly what work is carried out on an S3 at the first "inspection" which is 2 years old from new?
The price increase over the basic oil and filter change can be quite significant.
Also have you noticed how main dealers will have us believe that it costs more to service a "sporty" model in their range compared to one with same size of engine but is not a sporty model? There is a word for this - ********!

They look at/check things! But my indy says he does that on every service anyway!!!

Pretty much what it sounds like then, so not worth the hundred(s) more than an oil and filter change costs. The charge is even more extortionate considering the car is in and being worked on anyway for the oil change.

I have just found out that I have a VW/Audi independent specialist literally 5 mins from my house, but my Audi dealer is over 30 miles away.

As long as he uses genuine Audi parts mate you're still covered. Ask if he updates the online record as well...I recently put an add up for my car, dealer contacted me and asked for proof of service...which is the indy one???? That's all they want to see!:

Another option to consider, which most people don't look at, is do you have a local Skoda dealer near you ? Exact same parts / service schedules etc., but i found my local Skoda dealer much cheaper than the Audi dealer for exactly the same services.

If you plan to keep the car long enough to use the second one then it's no brainer at that price. :)

Yeah I plan on keeping it until they are doing good deals on new shape S3 so I guess that will be a while :icon thumright:

Good price, grab it.

Job done - 2x services now paid for. £374.40 all in. Pretty happy with that!

Ok we have 3 threads on page 1 on this topic but am choosing this one.

Does anyone know if the service plan is based on Quantum (Audi cheap brand) oils vs Castrol / Shell Helix? (Even if both meet the spec)

They have to be saving money somewhere....

Does it matter which brand of oil is used if they all meet the required spec? (serious question)

I wouldn't look on it as saving money, but more not having such an obscene mark up on actual cost. :D

Any 5w-30 oil meeting the VW 504 00 spec will do the job.

Well, up to a point.

The long life oil meets the lower annual service spec but is a better oil as it also meets long life/variable service spec (which the annual service oil doesn’t)

Spoke to a few folk today and the consensus seems to be they discount the labour rate. Service plan purchased, though the website to buy online is still broken.

It might be broken but it still charges your card I've been charged twice

Ouch. Try phone instead - Audi UK or your dealer as either can order it.

For the 2 charges on your CC - that”s Audi uk or your CC company to dispute. Hope you get it sorted.
