Hi Guys, some help please if you can.

Recently noticed some vibration/judder on the motorway.
Most noticeable when slowing down and then accelerating, engine really judders.
When accelerating from a stop and up through the gears is fine.
Also when downshifting through the gearbox there is no judder at all.

Car is A6 BiTDI with 8 speed ZF box

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I am going to scan the car for codes using carista later today to see if any codes flagged up

Thanks

Paul

Any particular revs?

i had something similar a coule of years back in my 3.0 (single turbo). It would happen at 1500rpm up in 5th /6th / 7th

turned out to be a split pipe which goes into the inlet. It’s the pipe below the coolant tank at the bottom of this picture

EDIT - just re-read your post......mine only happened during acceleration. Sorry!!

Aye mine is only doing it under acceleration. Low revs as in when slowing then accelerate again..

Will check hoses also

Just been out again in it at lunch time.
much worse at low rpm in high gears.
keep it in 6th or 7th and accelerate from 1200rpm the whole engines shakes until it gets to about 1800-2000rpm and stops from then

Pretty much the same symptoms as mine!

Fairly sure i it was the pipe at fault but i also had other work done at the time; had all the injector sleeves and washers replaced and both rocker cover gaskets as they were leaking

Aye well I've had one rocker cover gasket changed recently as it was leaking.
Fingers crossed it's just a hose

Will update this post if I find out the cause

Update. Been under the bonnet and found a pipe going into the turbo inlet was unclipped. No idea why. May have been left off when they did the rocker cover gasket.
What is the hose for anyone?

Also there was oil and smoke Coming from the hole. Normal?

Unfortunately I did also find oil coming one of the injector seals so needs a visit to the garage to get that sorted.

I’d get all the injector seals and washers etc done mate

What’s the mileage on the car?

this was the state of my injectors at 100k.....

M
y mechanic said there was hardly anything left of the seals.......

81k mate. It's booked in with an Audi specialist on Monday so we'll see what happens.

How much did that cost to get done mate? Did they just clean them all up and stick em back in?

just under £500 all in

half was labour; half was parts BUT i had both rocker cover gaskets and the pipe replaced all at the same time. The pipe was about £80 and I’m sure the gaskets were like £25 each or something??

my garage charges £60 an hour labour to give you an idea. He cleaned them up and refitted the injectors :)

Nice1 mate cheers. Gives me an idea what I can expect

So my car is in with an injection specialist today who have identified a compression leak from the injector.
suggested taking the 3 injectors out from that bank and testing them and then installing my seals and o rings etc.
I have told them to do all 6 at a cost of £330. obviously if one or more of the injectors are ****** then the price will rocket
Does that sound like a reasonably price?

Labour rates vary depending where you live. As per my previous post my garage charged me approx £250 for the labour.
£250 were parts of which £80 was for the pipe and approx £50 was for both rocker cover gaskets so that would be approx £120 for the seals and washers for the injectors which sounds about right so £330 sounds decent to me mate :)

Garage just been on the phone and injector 5 has no idle and 3 out of the other 5 are passing fuel back past the seal....
He did say all 6 failed on coding which I believe just means they are worn and slightly out of spec but he said they will be fine for now.
580 quid all in including new injector and the testing, new seals etc

Expensive day out for you mate :(

From the research I did it seems common for the injector seals to go on these engines from 75k onwards......another service item to add to the list!!

How does the car drive now mate?? I assume you've had it back??

oh crap....some times, when I drive off and gently press the accelerator, I have what appears to be hesitation/judder. Feels like incorrect fuel-air mixture. Started happening after the fuel filter was replaced so thought that the fuel line had not been bled properly and air was in the High-pressure part, but now I am not so sure...

Hy guys , got same issue with mine .a6 c7 2.0 tdi ,190bhp . Judder at low revs 1500-1700, in 5th,6th,7th gear when try to accelerate slowly is fine ,once i try slightly harder before gearbox jumps to lower gear ,the whole car judders.soon as revs are up to 2000rpm ,no prob at all . JUST to confirm i have changed the gearbox oil and filters ,and is the same . No fault codes at all . I have replaced n/s driveshaft ,and engine mount ,and same thing - no change.

John did servicing the injectors solve your judder?

@Buxton2901 @Rhyso How many miles did you drive from first finding the judder to fixing? I've just experienced it about 200 miles ago, in a week we go on a 10 day UK trip, I expect to drive about 2000 miles.. concerned about consequential damage.

It's rare it happens, ordinarily, the car will downshift before I get to such low revs, it tends to be building speed without kicking down. In the worst and first case the lack of power was scary and the car didn't want to exceed 50mph. I am quite sure it went into limp mode, but the issue cleared as soon as I restarted and no issues were recorded.

Honestly can't remember as it was about 3 years ago I had the issue and I sold the car last year. Might have been 300/400 miles?? I booked it in fairly swiftly.
