Facelift Police car "damaged" my S3

Annoying moment today, on the motorway police car doing about 90, switched straight into hard shoulder kicking up tons of rocks, stones and dust which fired right at my car damaging my bonnet, roof, fender and my windscreen.

Thankfully the windscreen is not badly cracked and will still be ok... very annoyed though. I get that he was on an emergency call but there really was no need to do what he did!

Not sure where I stand, I have dashcam footage but yes, car will get damaged from small rocks and stones over time but this is damage!!
 
Contact your local branch and report it with the footage on your phone with pictures - they should be able to direct you to the right department. However, it could have easily been a member of the public and it would have just been a case of bad luck
 
I am going to contact Highways England and claim for poor maintenance of the road, there should not have been that much debris on the hard shoulder in the first place. The dust kicked up could have caused an accident. The motorway is not a dirt track!!

I'd contact the police first. There must be something that states if they damage a member of the public's car during a police pursuit, you are able to make a claim.

I assume if they were doing 90, they must have been with Blue lights on?

Yep, lights on. But they would surely just argue they are doing there job and the road should be maintained. I'm always seeing rubbish in the hard shoulders about time they actually kept the roads clear!

lol I was about to say the same :)

His actions caused damage to your car! If a fire engine shunted your parked car out of the way to get past it would you take the hit?
 
A fire truck been deliberately driven in to your car is not the same as someone attending an emergency and kicking up some stones. Honestly that’s the risk you take driving on the motorway, suck it up, move on.
 
Two points.
1 - car pushed out of the way by a fire truck, or should it be engine? You should not park at any time that would restrict the access of an emergency services vehicle
2 - stones thrown up form the hard shoulder by police vehicle causing damage. Police vehicle is at fault. Yes they have permission to exceed speed limits if it is deemed safe to do so, but must consider road conditions. As a normal motorist if you are aware of debris regulary being found on the hard shoulder then a professioanl police driver must equally be so. Report the incident, send the clip in, contact your insurance company and make a claim.

Any time I had to use the hard shoulder on an emergency I did not go above 40 as
1 I wasn't sure of any cars broken down or stopped .
2Usually I was not able to see far enough ahead to feel safe going any quicker.
I have been in queuing traffic and the Police have gone by using the hard shoulder and they did seem imo to be travelling way to fast, Ok they have to make progress and were possibly going to be first on scene but before saving lives first they have to get to the incident safely.
I would say 90 mph on hard shoulder is toooooo fast.
I would deffo be sending the video to the Chief Constable of the Police and the roads maintenance company.

1 point. What if you park legally allowing access for emergency services vehicles and then some muppet parks opposite you after you have left your car, thus then restricting access for emergency services vehicle?

Even perfect drivers can come unstuck by the actions of others!
