Hi All,

I did a carbon clean for a customer today and a few hours later the customer has reported misfiring.

Normally with a carbon clean we put the nozzle after the MAF.

This particular car (1.4tfsi) 10 plate has no maf sensor.

The car misfires bad under high acceleration.

The car is fine at idle.

The car is not showing any codes on a generic scan tool nor any em lights.

Would anyone have an idea what this may be?

Normally carbon build up would be the cause of misfires but this time it seems like cleaning it has caused a misfire which has leaved me baffled.

Hi, it was a carbon cleaning machine and the car was not misfiring. I think the fuel filter is clogged and causing a few issues.

High rpm misfire is usually either clogged fuel filter, plugs or coils.

Do you get a before / after photo of the inlets after one of these carbon cleans?

I do not however, not just my word but all my customers the differences is noticable. Either quieter idle or smoother better throttle response.

I do a minimum 1 hour clean compared to market leading companies who only do half an hour. Could explain why people notice a difference with my clean.

Was you asking out of interest ?

I hear a lot of criticism online about these cleans however everyone who i have done were very happy with the results.

I've had a carbon clean in the past and can confirm that there is a noticeable difference.
During the clean on my car, the guy doing it had a diagnostic tool reading live data and discovered that I had a misfire on one of my cylinders. He helped me out by changing the coil packs around and doing a new log, finding the misfire had moved with the coil pack.
He then got on the phone to TPS and ordered me a new one on his account and arranged that i could collect it. I bought 4 and changed them all and the spark plugs, seemed like the best time to do it after a carbon clean.
