So been having a little problem with my OSF brake. As the car gets above 20-30 I get an audible chirping type sound from the front driver's side.

This morning I've had the caliper off taken out the pads, gave them a light sand, and reinstalled with lots of grease made no difference. When the rotor is hand turned it comes into contact with the pads so I'm guessing that this means I've got a warped rotor? And should get it resurfaced.

Got no idea how it's happened, could the alignment issues I've had be to blame?

Anyone got any tips that I could try at home without taking it into a garage?

Try a pad break procedure in case there's deposit build up on the disc? Get a dial guage kit and check hub face is true then bolt disk on and check disc is true. If it's warped you should be able to tell easily with the guage on it.

Cheers

Thanks for that, just gave it an extensive 8 mile 45-15 and 60-15 brake test with 8 miles coasting back with minimal braking and it does appear to be a bit better. Less chriping when coasting. The chirping comes back when the brake is used and then goes away again.

Does that sound like more braking will sort it out or probably still a warped disc?

May not be a warp then if it's gone away, even if only for a period of time. Could also be a sticky caliper piston, or pad binding in the bracket possibly? I went through all 3 on a previous car, bad deposits, stuck pistons and warped discs. The process you just did won't fix a warp (obviously) but it could fix the other 2, if only for a short while then the pad/piston may start sticking/binding again if that is the issue. You did say you went over the pads, did you move the caliper pistons at all to see if they are free? Check any slide/mounting pins too if applicable. I'd try to rule all those out first, then borrow/buy a cheap dial gauge or weigh up the cost of that against getting it resurfaced. Going back a few years now but i got a pro cut on car skim of both fronts on my wrx for 30 quid.

Thanks for that @Wagon Wheels I had both guide pins out this morning and did re-grease them before putting them back in. The copper paste that was on them did look a bit crusty, and I reinstalled them with new paste. I figure they should be running smoothly. I'll give it another shot tomorrow to see if another test irons it out.
