Just picked up my 2018 fl S3 saloon from an used car dealership.

They let me know they had fitted 2 new front tyres just before I picked the car up.

Driving the car home I noticed loss of traction in sport mode when I put the foot down. Beautiful sunny warm day and I had been driving about 20 minutes.

Never had this issue in my old S3 and was wondering if anyone knows why this is happening?

Is it because the front tyres are brand new? I also noticed that the back tyres are Pirelli and the front tyres they just fitted are Marshal, could this be the reason why?

Doubtful it’s the tyres, although I’d suggest getting some decent ones on there anyway.

It’s most likely the haldex system, usually the haldex pump that gets clogged up and stops working. It is a serviceable item but Audi only change the oil which doesn’t prevent it from clogging up. An independent specialist should be able to clean the filter and run some tests on it too.

Ah so the dealership just get the haldex oil changed at their ferrari dealership (they dont have an audi one). I take it they wouldve missed the pump getting clogged up?

New tyres need a few miles to scrub up before they are at their best.
are you experiencing understeer/oversteer? Or slipping when pulling hard ahead?

On a ferry just now only gave it a bit and the tyre pressure light came on so easier off.

Checking the pressure when I get off the ferry and I'll see if I notice anything you mentioned.

You will need 100 - 200 miles on new tyres to scrub them in. Take it easy until at least 100 miles.

But equally with a functional 4wd system you still shouldn’t get wheelspin, the drive should shift to the back on sensing front slip, so a second vote here for a Haldex issue. Hopefully just a clogged filter, and not a Haldex pump.

If you get traction light on dash, and your front wheels are spinning.

Worth checking rear haldax filter, won’t show any codes on dash.
Get oil changed, remove pump clean filter then you’ll have to get pump reset.

Car should loose traction as the haldax should cut in and drive rear wheels, and stop front spinning!

I’d be going back to garage where you got car from.

I get the traction light and I believe the front wheel were spinning (will need to double check).

Sadly cant go back to the garage I got the car from (to get it fixed anyway) as they are in NI and I'm in Scotland. I will definitely push them to cover any costs though (although I assume they'll want it checked it at an approved audi dealership).

Will driving the car cause any more problems or would you advise not to drive it until it can get looked at?

Driving won’t do any damage as your pump would of cut off!
You just wear the front tyres out spinning all the time.

Call them and explain can change the oil and clean filter yourself!
About £60 for oil and o rings etc

Then get the pump reset.

Hmm so just home. Just check and the front tyres they fitted are summer tyres while the rear set are winter tyres. Could this be the issue? Seems like the wheels just spin under any sort of boost.

Driving up hill normally and the car downshifting to get up the hill causes the traction light to come on. Any hard acceleration causes the traction light to come on even from 4k rpm all the way to 7k rpm.

Unlikely, even with those cheap ****** tyres they put on the front. Id be complaining about those as well.

But as others have said, its more likely to be the pump.

No way to tell is to get it on car lift, with all wheels of the floor.

Put it in drive and all 4 wheel should turn......
If they don’t haldax not working!

You could put it on jack stand, but best a car lift at a local tyre shop!

As far as I'm aware Audi will change the oil but they won't clean the filter, if you use an indy they will clean the filter and change the oil!

Look on Google and you will see how much crud can get stuck in it...no point changing the oil if the filter is dirty, it will just f up the pump long term.

Having mixed makes of tyres is dangerous, yet alone winter on the back and summer on the front! I'd be tempted to sell them as part ones and get 4 new ones all around. Living in Scotland check out reviews of the 'Bridgestone Weather Control A005' tyres.

Emailed the manager with a whole list of complaints. Will see how it goes. It's put me off keeping the vehicle at this point having to deal with these problems only having owned it for a day.

I can imagine mate and I'm sorry to hear it, buying a new car is meant to be fun. I'd be tempted to book it in with your local indy and ask them to check everything over, tell them you've just bought it and ask for a report on anything found.

Just an update. Was in at Audi and they claimed it was just a software issue which has now been fixed. Collecting it in the next few hours so I guess we'll see if it has been rectified.

The car was fitted with summer tyres on front and winters on the rear, that is a no no, all four tyres should be either summer or winter!!!.......what tyre size are the fronts and rears, as shown on the tyre sidewalls....software issue? I will await your next post.

235/35 R19 on front and back. Initially the software issue appeared to fix things. It was a lot more responsive and the boost finally hit max. But then the traction light started coming on again and the wheels were spinning...

Just curious......what makes you think the rear tyres are Winter?
Factory fit would have been Pirelli P Zero 235/35 R19, however the recommended Winter tyre sizes are 205/50 R17 or 225/40 R18 and identified by M+S.
