I'm a new owner of a 2018 RS3 since March. Very satisfied with the new slightly used RS and the way it drives and performs. Looking forward to enjoying chatting with all of you on this forum.

I hope you can help me out with a bit of a concern. After I just got the car and being unfamiliar at the time, I tried to put the transmission into S and Dynamic, but instead of pulling the 'shifter' directly back from D to S, I pulled it back and to the right and it went into manual mode M1 instead. Then I drove off and gave it a moderate amount of gas and soon realized it was revving quite a bit until I realized it never got out of 1st gear. Did about 200 feet to the end of the road. Car got to about 30-40 mph, on mine 60kph. If the car has a rpm limiter that would reassure me but unsure if it does and could there be potential engine damage? What should the dealer verify, if it is a valid concern? I don't see any signs of engine problems, can't tell if engine compression has been affected in any way, or any other problems.

Thanks,
Rob

Welcome. You do have a rev limiter, I think it's about 7000rpm. So you'll not have done any damage.

That's reassuring and good to know that even though it's an automatic it has a rev limiter. Tried googling to find this out with no success. Glad you replied :) after I realized my typo 'Net' to Forum, instead of 'New' to Forum, was thinking what did I do, what a way to get started on the forum, lol. Also ran it across CarGurus and they said if the engine runs OK and does not make any unusual noises and there are no pools of oil under the car I should not worry.
Thanks,
Rob

Enjoy with your new toy :thumbs up:!
I don't know for 2018, but my 2019 in manual mode shifts from 1st to 2nd gear automatically, from 2nd gear and up stays in gear and hits the rev. limiter.:racer:

The engine has a "cold" rev limiter of around 5.5k, and normal running temp you will bounce it off the max rpm limiter in manual mode all day it will NOT change up gears for you - you have to do it!

The limiters are there for a good reason so you are 100% within normal operating for the engine in that short time/distance, no need to concern over anything. In manual, it will only change down gears when you select, if it is safe to do so (ie will not over-rev), or to prevent low speed stall automatically, so you really can't go wrong.

tip: get to a steady speed, say 50 or 70 for example, then HOLD the shift "down" paddle as you plant your right foot lol.

Thanks, great to hear. Now I can begin to understand how this car works. But I have a feeling there is lots more to learn :)

I take mine to the redline in first off every set of lights. You're good :p

Just don’t give it any stick until your oil is up to 80c

Wait ... do what now? Is this just dumping to the lowest gear and landing you in the ideal rev range for zoomies?

Not sure about "ideal" rev range, but yes, it drops to the lowest available gear possible --- just be ready to upshift quick like
