Its not actually dimming, you can just look right into a bright lightsource when its on.
To get the headlights to turn on/off when you open or close the car you need to code "coming and leaving home".

do you have to code it before the coming home button will light up orange to say its on need to be coded first also i thought the auto dim mirror dimmed as the green light is on whene its turned on and off thanks guy

There is no coming home button, it just works on closing and opening your S3.

That switch doesnt need any coding..
Your mirror does need coding yes, u need to code in central electrics that a sensor is installed.

Google for Coming and Leaving Home VCDS that is the lights that turn on and off like I said two times already. And with a simple google search you'd already have the answer because everyone is questioning this 100000 times.

I want to put this frameless mirror on my A3 2004 and S5 2013
Can you tell me what i need to change in order to put the mirror ? Note that i dont need the auto dimming feture , i just need the frameless mirror look.
Do i need to change the base mount bracket on both cars ? Or can i use the original existing mount?

Which part number did you use? Did you have any issues swapping mirrors? I know the 8P has a 3-prong and the new mirrors use a 4-prong. Id appreciate any insightWhy not go one more and retrofit / modify so you have the frameless rear view auto dim mirror - fully functioning
