Hello Folks,

When should the timing belt on my A3 be changed I've been on searching on the internet but I'm getting conflicting information

Thanks in advance for any info

Sandy

All tfsi have chain . Only tdi have beeld.

I’m sure the 1.4 has a belt and needs replacing every five years.

Timing belt definitely, no need to do water pump that is fed of the other side of the camshaft , dealer is around £599 , indi around £400 , just had it done

Your right! Only the 1.0 1.2 1.4 tfsi and (Not sure) 1.6 tdi are beld driven.

On the manual of my 1.4 COD Q2 says is milage depending and not time.. every 140k..

I believe there was a service bulletin just after 5yr or 60000k , certainly in the UK, maybe had a few too many warranty jobs.

I have same car. Looked on Skoda forums for CZEA engine and only an inspection at 120,000 miles. Audi say 5 years. I rang up local Skoda/Seat dealers months ago about this and said would they do belt change.... 1 said didnt have the tools... as its an Audi (vag group engine) other dealer said would not do. They both gave prices before they said all this for the CZEA EA211 engine belt change and was way cheaper than Audi which at the time was £499.

Dack Automotive say £325 to do it

What is worrying is the CoD bit, theres special tool to do the job. Ive had chain drive Mercs and Renaults for 14 years so this belt stuff a bit crap

Hi guys, great info here. I need my Timing Belt doing on my 2015 1.4tfsi 150bhp manual. Does anyone know of any decent reliable indi around the Nottinghamshire area? Also if i was to get the parts myself (from TPS). What is the exact kit i need? Im on 57k and car is coming to being 5 years old next month. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It’s not so much the cod but the variable inlet timing , I looked at buying the tools but to be honest factoring in the cost of tools the time I would spend & the bonus that I might botch it doing it wasn’t worth the risk , my good indi does these day in /day out.
If you had 2 or 3 vags in the family then maybe so as you’ve learned from the first one.

My Local TPS had a large notice stuck inside the main door stating NO public Trade only. This was mid March before lockdown.
However I called them from the car and ordered the parts but had to pay for it all with credit card and collected the parts next day.

Thanks @A3SLine2014. Correct TPS are trade only now.

Called TPS and they quoted me a price for the Cambelt Kit and also the Waterpump. Can anyone confirm if the 2015 pfl 1.4 tfsi 150bhp engine requires the waterpump or not? Im getting mixed answers. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, rang my local Audi Sytner Nottingham today and they have quoted me £725 for Cambelt and Waterpump and £595 for just the waterpump. The service department lady on the phone said we recconmend to have the waterpump done with the Cambelt. I mentioned to her to confirm if the waterpump is even required on this 1.4tfsi 150bhp engine and she didnt have a clue. Just said we suggest to have it done. I think i will skip the waterpump if its definitely not to worry about.

I had the same at Aberdeen Audi ,clueless when I explained that it was on the other side they said they didn’t understand, found a good indi instead.

So are the waterpumps quite strong on these models? Anyone got it done seperately from the cambelt?

I believe it is a non service item , yes it could go but so do turbochargers etc and you don’t replace them , anyway you have a temperature gauge, personally I would leave alone ,if got a 14 yr old van along with a 13 yr Corsa in the household still on their original water pump.

Thanks for the input guys. One last question, my car currently has full audi service history. Is the cambelt replacement classed as a service history job on your service record? As i want to get my cambelt done from a third party garage but my major 20K service done from Audi. If i did that would that still mean my car has full audi service history or doing the cambelt from a third party affect the main dealer record? Thanks

A good indi will have access to the Audi paperless system , you are well out of manufacturers warranty just get the indi to do the service as well ,unless you are partial to the breakfast at Audi

*Update*

Got my Cambelt, major service and brake fluid change done at my local Indi in Nottingham, good job done, Audi paperless service history updated too. Cost me around £660 for all the work. Thanks everyone for the input and support.

Which independent did you use

Spoke to independent locally (Fontain in Iver). Car's done 34K in ~5 yrs. They said their (Audi) system is still saying 140K miles, that whenever they do one on a low mileage car the old belts come off 'as new' @5yrs, and recommended I do it at ~8yrs if I want for piece of mind. They certainly had no incentive not to take my money... (£387.25 from them)

It should be okay as the weather in UK is not as hot which is usually the cause of a perished timing belt. Thats what one experianced mechanic said to me. However it all depends on you, if you want to take the risk and leave it till you hit 60k-8yrs. Or if you want the peace of mind and get it done now. The price is not too bad, £300-£350 would be more ideal. All the best.
