Audi S8 5.2 V10. 5k miles. Car had been stood for over 10 years, I drained the oil , filled her up with quantum 5w30 and put a new oil filter on. Whilst i was draining, the first litre was water then the oil poured out which hadnt been changed in decades.

I have been starting it up on the odd occasion. Starts up first time no rattles no noises. Been running for 30mins at a time.

By the way the car is my project car and been parked on my drive for 2 +years its 97% complete now. I still havent driven it. Lol.

So i decided to remove the sump to see and this is what I found at the bottom of the pan.

Thick sludge. And lots of it too. Stuck to the bottom of the pan and quite thick and sticky. I'm hoping it stayed at the bottom.

The oil pick up pipe was also blocked 99%

After cleaning it

So now it's all back together. I'm thinking I should use a engine flush. I have purchased 40 litres of quantum 5w30. Wasting oil is the least of my problems ATM. (have 2 other VAGs) so will come in handy .I also had a Bottle of Forte Advanced formula engine flush in the garage, judging from reviews Forte seems to be a trustworthy brand.

The plan is to FIll up 10litres fresh oil and new filter. Run the car for 30min. Put the flush in run again for 20mins. Immediately drain.

Remove sump again. Clean the pick/sump.

Then. New oil and filter, drive 500miles and just to a standard oil change using a high spec oil.

So the big question is.

SHOULD I USE THE FLUSH? what harm would it do to the engine. I want to clean as much of the sludge out.

I don't mind repeating these steps again, If need be. Removing sump isn't an issue, I'd happily do it again to make sure.

ANY ADVICE would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty much ready to pour in the bottle of flush in. Just thought I'd get some experts advice of

NEVER been a fan of engine flushes but what harm could it do.... crack on I say

I've never used them myself before. Nor have I ever had sludge in an engine before.

Flushes are used a lot in the trade these days - e.g. Toyota main dealers - and I believe Nissan. Personally, I wouldn't be worried to use one as per the can instructions.
