Dpf regen issue

Hi all,

My A3 8v 1.6 TDi 2014 keeps coming up with a particulate fault.

the car eventually regens after running for. While and goes off.

I would expect this to happen once in a blue moon due to shorter trips but recently it is coming on every few days.

I had less that a few miles before the fault this time and it’s starting to get on my nerves.

the car has done approx 30k miles. I suspect the dpf exhaust sensor maybe the issue but it’s not coming up with any registered faults on VCDS the only thing I can see that I find odd is that the values on Particulate filter soot mass measured comes up with a negative number of -8.79Gramms which is impossible which I think might be throwing the system out encouraging it to constantly try to regen.

Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated or any other values I should be looking at

Take it for a kicking I have 140 tdi sport do short trips now cause of covid-19. My partner lives Blackpool so once a week its gets a proper kicking I use high performance fuel and I mean a proper kicking certain stretch of m way no cam ten miles dont care about the fuel car just loosens up

I have already done that and it does go off but then a couple days later the fault returns which leads me to believe that it can’t clog up that quickly
 
Mines did that where it would regen often but I seriously kicked 115mph now it's fine. Other thing carbon clean

I think the problem is your mileage 5k a yr , might have to bite the bullet with a new dpf , or buy 2nd hand and swap the car for a petrol .

Ouch , not as bad as some Subaru’s which can be £3k

Halfords offer a dpf flush? at £85 , considering the options worth a punt?

Jaks, incase you don't want to collect points on your licence it's the revs that are important and not the mph.
As said its your low mileage that could be causing the issue unless it is not made up of short trips. Oh and I know this will cause a debate, but avoid supermarkrt diesel.
If you did have to go petrol then the cod engine is very good. My 1.5 is returning near diesel like figures.

I agree with low mileage I only travel to and from work before lockdown I was driving to Blackpool about once a week. Hence I could give it a kicking but there are certain stretches of the motorway that are 10 to 15 miles long no camera's CCTV or police yea driving at excessive speeds is a risk. Some same drivecin 3rd gear for ao long for high revs I'd rather drive longer achieve better result. Just saying each to there own

In the good old days before DPFs you could save your soot by driving gently, accumulating it in the system, then blow it out the back in a big black cloud by booting the car at an opportune moment if someone behind was pi$$ing you off.
Replicate that cycle now and soot is trapped in the DPF all at once and is more likely to block it than clear it. If it gets too blocked, the car won't regen.
Driving at a steady motorway speed for an hour will do you more good because it will create the conditions and temperatures needed for the car to go into regen and give it time to complete the cycle to burn off the soot.
Modern diesels are not suited for just pootling around town and doing short journeys. They need regular leg stretches and longer journeys to promote and complete a DPF regen every few hundred miles.

^^^THIS^^^ when I had a diesel company car mine was always flashing up "Keep Driving", sometimes it would be on the way to work, so I'd just drive in a lower gear to get the revs up, it soon cleared then.
