Hi,

I have recently bought a 2008 3.0 A4 TDI Quattro with Bluetooth for phone, (it's the system with the 6 CD changer built into the dash), however when making calls the recipient of my calls is being deafened by a terrible noise which makes using the phone almost unbearable.

Has anyone had similar issues, any suggestions for a fix?

Have you tried a different phone? This with tell you if it could be the Bluetooth software on the phone that's the issue. My dad had to roll back his android software from 9 to 8 to cure his very crackly calls. Other causes could be the firmware of the main unit might need updating? If these don't work then there is a very slim chance the speaker might be faulty. This is mounted in the interior light trim above your head.

I'll give that a try Stonefish, would be great if it was as simple to remedy as this!
Certainly not the speaker, the sound inbound is ok, it's the poor folk I phone who are being deafened

Think you mean mic not speaker bud.

Mic could be faulty, but they don't often go wrong tbh.

Hi again, so I'm guessing the mic might be faulty...if updating firmware, (which could be the case as the Sat Nav is also waaaayy, out of date). Is this a VCDS job, or can it be updated by another means?

If you try it with a different mobile type. If you have an android then try an iPhone and it is still crap then it could be the microphone. The microphones can go, but very rare. Quite easy to replace. In the sun glasses holder is a single torx screw. The overhead console will drop down. Not sure what the part number for the microphone is for your car. I suspect it is MMI 2G system. Firmware update discs are sold on eBay. I've updated the firmware on my MMI 3G+ but don't know about the MMI 2G system. Nigel (NHN) know shed loads more about these things.

thanks Stonefish, i'll rake out an old phone and give it a try.....will also get myself a disk for updating the MMI
:thumbs up:
