Hello all. I’m new to the forum after using the info on here to retrofit door warning and puddle lights. The next project will be cup holder lights. I’ve got a 2014 3 door 1.8 S-Line Quattro which I absolutely love but I’ve got a few questions I’m hoping you guys can help with:

1. Just had my fully comp insurance renewal and it’s over £600! No convictions, accidents and years of no claims. Seems very expensive and wanted to know everyone was paying and which provider was the cheapest.

2. I average around 25mpg around town and wanted to know if that was the norm for this car.

And finally 3. The throttle response on my car isn’t exactly the smoothest or the most responsive, however it does seem marginally better in manual mode. Does anyone else have this problem and can it be rectified.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

1) Insurance all depends on your age, how many years of no claims, postcode of where you live, and how many claims that type of car has had. But best to shop around.

2) Again, it just depends on how heavy your right foot is? How long are your journeys etc? You'll never get great mpg around town, so 25 seams acceptable.

3) Take it to a main dealer or specialist, and ask them to investigate. Might be a good time for a software update, or even a remap.

Hi and welcome ::) The insurance does seem a bit high for a 49 year old! I was 44 when I had my S3 and it was under £300 per year with everything added, but as said above it's not as simple as just age and no claims. How much was it last year?

£200 less last year! Realise there are lots of factors just always thought it was expensive for this type of cars. Will continue shopping around and thanks for the reply

Seems a big jump then if nothing has changed! Try going to AXA direct, been the cheapest for me for 5 years https://www.axa.co.uk/car-insurance/

Welcome,

same as above. I had that car and bought a DTUK pedal box which helped the throttle lag massively. Lots of settings to find what suits you. I took mine off once when I had to take the car to the dealer. Couldn’t believe I used to drive like compared to the pedal box

Just a brief update on my insurance which may help others. I did a comparison and a couple came in £300 cheaper (no one that I’d heard of) than my renewal. I queried this with my current provider and I got a £250 reduction! My insurance company is a leading provider and I thought the best they'd offer was a £100 discount.

Don't be shy about naming them. :)
You don't get any customer loyalty from insurance companies.........in fact just the opposite, you are often penalised for it.

So true Ron, think past two years I've done new quotes and ended up with a significant saving with the same company I'm already insured with. Always baffles me when you need to ring up and say my renewal was X yet I've done a quote and it is £x less?

i have the 1.8 in manual 3 door and 25-30mpg is the usual for start stop traffic, motorway can easily get up to 40mpg if i dont go over 70

I would say the throttle pedal is sluggish aswell, it feels like you really need to put the foot down to the floor to make it feel nippier, i also struggle to get fast take offs from a stop but this could be down to my clutch which feels quite heavy and doesnt come back up as fast as i would like it to for quick gear changes

Hi and welcome.
