Hi All
Put a search in about Park Assist ( where the car parks itself ) but nothing came up. So here is my question has anyone fitted Park assist? How hard was it if you have? Also cost.
Regards Paul..

I think the time to install would be better spent learning how to park. Not helpful, but nor is the self park feature (I had it on my A3)*

*I'm not great at parallel parking, i do it a few times a year....

Had "self park" on my first 8V. It was used once while the salesman demo'd the car, then again to scare the Shiss out of the Mrs when I collected it. Twice in two years, that's how great the feature was :)

I have it from factory, too retrofit it you may need new bumpers as there is an additional 4 sensors plus you will need parking sensors front and rear .... Honestly I have used it once it is a bit of a gimmick and if you can park it is very nerve-racking letting it do it =) The only advantage is you get parking sensors all around the car front, rear and sides .....

You can buy the complete park assist retrofit kit for around £450 iirc. You'd need to drill holes in your bumper or even replace them. I wanted to do it too for the sake of retrofitting another option but then again I don't trust myself with clips:chargrined:

Agree with these other comments. Plus I’m pretty sure it would be a BIG job to retrofit - and expensive.

I’ve have it in my other car and its been used a handful of times in 4 years. The merc one can park in parking bays as well as parallel park.
Like Alex said used a couple of times mainly to show off or scare other folk otherwise I know how to park.
I do like the idea of parking sensors all round though so I can get that image on MMI like JRumball above. This is more for completeness than necessity. Alex’s next job next time he’s in sunny Scotland :icon thumright:

im sure the A3 version can park in bays too. does look interesting with side sensors too hehe. I've a spare pair of sensors for park assist as i bought the wrong ones for front parking sensor retrofit... mmmm lol

I've got it fitted on both my cars and to be 100% honest I never use the feature, however what I do use all the time is the side parking sensors they have saved me a couple of times, and for me it was well worth the money having it fitted at factory.

I tried to do this but ordered the wrong parts got LHD not RHD Do you have the RHD part numbers ?

Mostly because I noticed the MMI fan kicking in and thought it would be a good idea to cool it

There’s a guide on here somewhere. Essentially cut the hole in glovebox and pipe it through.
I will try and find it. Looked easy enough. Another project on my downtime.

I'd be interested in this ! I'd have ordered the car with it but definitely not on the options list.
Have it on the B6 (factory ordered in 2004 ) and it's great ! Sandwich, fruit, chocolate...…..

and Park Assist is very useful. It does depend what the car is used for and where. Wife loves it , I'm happy with it.

Struggling to find that thread might be on another forum. Definitely read it somewhere as it’s on my downtime project list.

I have it.

I've used it once when practising how to use it.

I got it because I'm crap at parallel parking due to rarely doing it. The windows in an A3 are fine for parking either forward or back into a parking space in say a car park or on a drive.

I don't have a screen on my dashboard with a parking camera like in the previous photo. What I get is a diagram with my car and the parking sensors beeping which turn red if I'm near an object I will hit.

Love the park assist but for my partner. She was used to banging the wheels into the gutter to get her bearings in her old car and this would not have gone down well with me in our new S3! She now parks like a champion with the assist...

I have the park assist fitted to my car, I've only tried to use it twice since October when I picked it up.

Maybe someone here can tell me the correct procedure to use as on both occasions it's scared the life out of me, I'm sure had I not intervened the system would have put me into a wall/another car!

PS - I've watched the odd instructional video on Youtube but mine doesn't appear to be as well behaved -

Search for pla 2.0 or 3.0

The installation is simpel but takes time.
If you have pdc front and rear, you only have to add 4 sensors.
As the sensor have 3 wires, + and - and signal you can connect them to the pdc connectors. From every corner of the car its only 1 wire. (label the cables so installation is easier.)

You need a different middle console buttons as you dont have the pla button. (facelift is white background lighting, pre facelift red.) Of course the new console isnt wired. There are 2 wires from pla switch to pla elekctonics (above clutch)

You als need abs sensors in rear. (if you already have acc you dont need them)

last complete retrofit set (stock 8 pdc sensors) cost arrund 250usd on ali.
Coding get a hold of the famous spanish golf pdf. If your missing more sensors price is going up too.

Drilling the holes is not an issue. As the markings off the pla sensors are on the inside of the bumper.
Punches like these are perfect!

32mm for prefacelift facelift is smaller.. Do not order b4 getting pla set on your desk!

Some prefecelift i run in trouble installing pla 3.0 (ESP-33 error). Updating the ABS module firmware is the key
