Hi new here to the audi scene just waiting to pick up my audi a3 tdi sline black edition. Is there any thing I should look out for and what is the car like to live with thanks

Should be a nice car. Plenty of smooth power for the size of the car, economy should be good (I get mid 50s on A roads and over 60 MPG on long motorway runs). They used this 170 TDI engine in both the TT and Skoda Octavia VRS (diesel). Any early problems were sorted by 2011. A common problem across that particular VAG age-range is the rear wiper motor - characterised by erratic movement and parking mid-screen.

yes I heard that but previous owner had replaced the wiper motor and had receipts to prove which is a bonus. Have u done any exterior mods was thinking s3 rear defuser but not to sure yet on mods

I also see people talking about single tail pipe and double pipe what's the difference if u dont mind me asking

I haven't done any modifications to mine other than Audi Sport number plate holders and LED DRLs. Mine has twin pipes, I think the 170s are twin pipe. I suspect it was the 140s which had a single pipe. There is quite a lot of subtle differences between the 170 and 140. The 170 has a larger turbo & intercooler, up-rated clutch, bigger front discs and different injectors. It isn't just a 140 with a different MAP.

Nice the LEDs really make it stand out. thanks for the info, is engine noise an issue as I had a bmw 3 series 2010 and sounded like a tractor but thanks for the answers

This VAG 2.0 common rail TDI engine is quiet and smooth - particularly at speed. I've heard noisier in much newer C class diesel Mercs. I think it's fair to say there is a some tyre noise at speed in this model of A3.

I think there’s a pattern on the exhaust tip finishing being:

standard 170 bhp = angled tip twin tip
Quattro 170 bhp = straight twin tip

This is probably a silly question but if i get a double din radio screen would it be plug and play as it has the bose sound system

Not plug and play but fitting solutions that include a fascia and wiring harness are commonly available.

The early models had 2 exhaust tips regardless of engine power. Later models had the single tip for 140 models and dual tip for 170 models regardless of quattro or not.

Oil pumps can go bad, as can high pressure fuel pumps, rear wipers but they are generally solid if maintained well. DSG models are the most desirable.
