Hey, what do you guys think of this on a Red Audi
I am not debating the private plate thing as it means a lot to me, but I like how there is a bit of red under the black which will set off the red car.

I was just going to get a normal one, but unsure now

I think it may be a bit chavvy bou racer type, and I am far from one, but like the idea of the red.
Yes its road legal as well.
Thanks

I would personally go for the 4D with gel dome ones but still thinking they both are bit tacky.
Maybe they will grow on me with time

Yeah I seen a rude boy in his poorly modded fiesta with the plain 4d and I was a bit meh.
But seen the red ones underneath and thought oh maybe.
Then the gel ones with red and black mixed and thought they looked a lot better, they are 35.00 more expensive. 75.00 I think for 2.

I prefer my plates plain, and not memorable... yet when I did have a private plate I had plates from fourdot that were lovely.

Taken in isolation I rather like these 4D things. They’re an original take on a mundane item that we’re legally compelled to nail to the ends of our cars. The amount I like them is however dramatically eroded by the fact that I have yet to see them on any car that isn’t being driven by an absolute tool...

I have 4D plates. No red underneath just plain, I like the fact they're a little different.

Red isn't for me, don't like the gel look either. End of the day it's a personal choice, if you like it go for it.

Yeah thats what I think adam14, its something different.
GSB Your spot on, I have not seen the 4D plates on anyone's car that does not have a pounding sound system with their shirt off and kids running around without seat belts lol. Sorry I am not being a ****, just joking, but have not seen anyone with 4D plates that wernt young and had a car that looked like the plate cost more than their car. But this is only out on my journeys, I cannot speak for everyone in the UK obviously as I am considering it, and I am far from a boy racer.

Chavvy - yes
Illegal - possibly. Yes if you mess with spacing.

I am a bit confused because I thought we lived in a 3 dimensional world!

Glad I don't fall in that bucket then ;)

I got 4D on mine as it matches the raised RR badging on the car, had gel plates on my S3, found they were easier to clean, you have to get a detail brush on the 4D plates... my mate had a 69 plate Tango red s3, same 4D plates as these but with red highlights. Looks good in my opinion.. the rear plate lights up nice too..

Could someone educate me and explain what a 4D plate is?

Same as normal plate, but the letters are individually laser cut out of 5 or 6mm thick black plastic and stuck on the yellow background.

I’d rate UltraTek plates as linked above, they only cost me £28 from my local retailer who rang up and ordered them direct. They’ve got raised lettering and metal, so look the part.

I’ve had them for 3+ years and they’ve been in 3 different cars and still look brand new, no brainier.

Can you add a flag on the left?

If you’re on about UltraTek ones I’m pretty sure you can, think there’s just an extra cost.

I just got mine without as I prefer the plain look.

Yes you can get the flag, I got my UltraTek ones in 2015 and they have been on 2 cars and still look like new! I also went for the plain look.

Not as bold a the 4D ones:

I really like these 4d/3d gel with red. Not getting the carbon fiber border.

The one that has flecks of red on the side, the guy says they are legal, but I am not too sure if they are.
DVLA says they have to be all black on the top.

I should call them though as I really dont want it to stick out way to much, just a couple small layers, they go all the way to 6mm which I think stands out way too much.

Why do people do this!! what goes through their mind when looking through eBay and aliexpress.....”I know, Iv got a lovely Audi S3, £40k worth of car but a tiny red bit of pipping around the number plate letters will just set it off!!! Ermmmm nope it won’t!!

waiting for replies.... my bets are:

1. Makes my car stand out
2. My car I can do what I like.
3. Mate you just have no taste

I changed mine, without the colour, because I hate dealer plates using our cars for advertising.. though your comment could applied to most visual mods seen on this forum, I for one detest the “slammed” look, no idea how that appeals at all, also think private plates/ incorrectly spaces plates.. belong in the past, but each to their own I guess..

5. It’s indervidjyooal, innit...

Which, to be honest is fair enough... if you like it, knock yourself out.

It’s only a number plate after all, not some safety critical part of the car or it’s engineering. Same goes for any other customisations you make. I may not like them but I’ll absolutely defend your right to do it, with one minor caveat.

If it’s dumb as hell, dangerous or poorly engineered, I absolutely reserve the right to take the **** out of it... :haha:
