Next model A3

Never understood why VW made the `R` so boring to look at. The GTI always looked better. You'd think the `Top of the tree` car would have the better styling.

But this new MK8. They've even made the GTI look as dull as dishwater. The GTD even gets better looking alloys the the GTI gets.

The S3 has always had understated looks, but compared to the Golf R, it looks far better.

I never understood why the R was so dull looking either.

Bodes well for the next S3 then. Funny how some car reviewers were quoting the S3 having the same 296 bhp as current car.

It would be a massive own goal for Audi if that was the case. But can't see it myself.

Probably means the next RS3 having 420bhp+ to keep it ahead of the A45 S and upcoming 400bhp+ Focus RS,
400+ bhp focus RS....now that's stupid and dont believe that Ford will bring out the car with this amount of power, 360 ish at the most....and can you imagine how unreliable it would be as well with 400 bhp...

Would a Ford with 400bhp be less reliable with an Audi with 400bhp?

Although my dealer told me they wouldn't be making another Focus RS at all.

I see so many R's its unreal and almost all are on a personal lease, and they are Cheap! I always ask and most pay just over £200 a month with deposits of between £900 and £1200 over two years and 6000 miles. Deals like this are nuts and 1) have flooded the market with the model 2) put people in to vehicles who should not really be able to afford them 3) created a massive demand for milage blockers, and I mean massive 4) created a fleet of dodgy used vehicles. Most of these cars have been ragged to hell, and because of point 3 have incorrect indicated milage.

Looks like a used R is off the table for my next car.

Have an independent pre-sales report done. A specialist who knows what they are doing can tell what's going on within a few mins.

Dind'nt you read/watch the owners reviews of the current Focus RS when it was released and yes A Audi with 400 bhp will be far more reliable than a Ford with 400 bhp because Audi has been manufacturing engines with high power outputs for decades...The Audi 5 pot RS3 engine has won more awards than most other manufacturers have

No I didn't read those reviews so you are probably right.

Dont be stupid....all lease cars are basic spec maybe some got 19s on them, buy one that's been fully optioned or there abouts.....options cost a fortune on a personal lease....a couple of years ago l had a look at the golf R....any one with a Pano Roof...upgraded infotainment and leather seats...etc etc aint a lease car mate

I prefer to buy cars outright which is probably why I won’t ever get a band new car, I know not every car will be treated badly but if I’m honest an S3 appeals to me way more than an R. Even a PFL 8v or 8p.

Must admit, the MK3 Focus RS was plagued with engine issues. But VW group are not best know for their reliability either. They just don't seam to get highlighted as much. Probably because the Focus RS is bought by enthusiasts, rather than average Joe is a Golf or A3. So whoever shouts the loudest gets heard.

What Ford should do, (which they won't) to get maximum Kudos with the next RS, is get Cosworth to fettle with the engine. Reliable power and the Cosworth Badge on the rear. Think I'd have a trouser explosion if that happened. I'd also be sat at the dealership at 5am waiting for them to open. Get my deposit in.

Sounding good ?

All I could hear was tyre noise .... where is the engine & exhaust note ?

I know regulations are clamping down on sound, but that was pretty concerning imo ... the 5 pot sound is the ace card of the RS3.

I hope that was just poor quality recording or toned down pre-release car. You’d of heard my 2016 RS3 a mile away coming.
You do have a point to a certain degree, but you definitely knew it was a 5pot engine....you could hear it OK.

I might be the only one to suggest this, but I was never the biggest fan of the PFL RS3 noise. I thought it was just a tad to much :shutup2:!

The trouble is they are toning down the sound with each & every model ... from the pre fl > the fl > the current fl > the new model

I can understand reducing emissions but regulations on sound i don’t see the significance and it’s not like they were overly loud to begin with ... go hear an Aston or Lambo and they are in a different league again.

You were definitely spoilt with PFL Snake, but I do think that does sound pretty good, and when you aren’t hearing wind and tyre noise, to me it sounds SO much better than a 4 pot.

I think it’s maybe as I know how prominent my RS soundtrack was then as to me that sounded very muted. I’ve seen videos of the current RS Q3 and that sounded better so hopefully it will be more like that. Agreed a 4 pot will never sound as good.

Loved the sound of the pfl with sports exhaust....but the pfl cars now look really old at the front......and they are all sport back models...lol

I have to concur .... the front end of the pre-fl dates back to 2013 so it is an old design now.

But the I can’t abide the alloys on the RS Saloon which look like a Kia design. & the rotors look so wrong on the saloon too, not to mention their age.

The new car platform & design is very much needed now to breath new life into the 3 model range. Thankfully the alloys on the new cars look quite dynamic too.

Nope, embarrassing, xenophobic or racist you decide.

BTW it's ridiculous, not rediculous.

Have you seen the prices of the basic A3 technik ?

I was astonished when I looked on the configurator ... the S3 will easily be £50k which is staggering !

It will be a really nice car mate but with exclusive paint it’s gonna be a seriously expensive car.

I dread to think what the RS3 will cost.

Yup megabucks but it's all depends on the discounts available at the time plus the APR l got a unexpected wee windfall at the start of this month so some of that is my deposit....looked at used Rs3 saloons none of them look nowhere near as nice as my S3...and they're ain't a lot in circulation in dealerships atm but l do think they're will be a good few in holding areas waiting to be delivered to dealerships but it's like everything right now ....a waiting game gotta stay optimistic about things in general

@Snake Pliskin out of curiosity, what is the RRP for a good spec A45s? Is there much discount to be had on them to?

I got mine just before all this "covid" kicked in and managed to get a few grand off ... not sure that has any bearing on the market now.
I was a cash sale though with no part ex and was happy to take a pre-ordered car ... it all fell into place.
