Which is the better of the two?
I cannot decide which way to go, Vcds is mega expensive in comparison to OBDeleven so my question is which one to buy and will OBDeleven cut the mustard?

Depends how much you're looking to use and how confident you feel with the vcds.
I bought the OBDeleven the other week and used it to show the reverse visual for the rear parking sensors on my MMI as I only had beeping. I also used it for the passenger dipping mirror. Other than these I'm probably not going to use it an awful lot so I didnt want to spend more money on getting a vcds.

My experience with the OBD has been very good for what I needed it for.

Depends on what you want to do with it? A simple case of need vs. want and how much you are will to pay for the privilege.

On a side note what are the clone vcds cables like, do they work properly?

Depending on who you talk to some are fine and some aren't worth the trouble. No doubt official VCDS enthusiasts will scoff at the mere mention.

I have an OBDeleven that I used to programme my retro fit cruise control, beyond that just a few personal preference mods which means it was a very cost effective option for me.
