I’ve dug an old 12” sub with built in amp out of the loft and want to install it into the car but having issues getting power.

I want to run the power cable from the battery down the passenger side of the car and into to boot.

I can’t find a way from the battery through to the cab on the passenger side of the car.

How have you guys got power to your sub/amp? And has anyone ran their cable down the passenger side?

I know I could go from the battery to the ecu box and into the cab but the cable I have isn’t long enough.

As a power cable for an amp isn’t an ‘essential’ item I’d better not go out to get one (rolls eyes)

Theres a gromit behind the glovebox, comes out near the battery if I remember correctly. Did it years ago.
You will also need wiring diagram for the oem amp to tap into a output for your rca's nd remote.
Sounded crap in my saloon so took it back out in the end, too much soundproofing in the boot. 400wrms sub sounded no better than me the standard one.

Yup, what he said. Grommet that the A/C lines run through I believe and drops in right behind the glove box. Easiest way is to go through the engine bay side first and use a coat hanger or something stiff to guide the wire through. You'll need to drop the glove box though.

To much sound proofing ?

That's how audio gets a clearer sound.

Thanks. I dropped the glove box and had a poke around behind those grommets with a brazing rod but couldn’t find a way through.

Now I know it can be done I’ll have another go on the weekend and be a little more persistent!

The sub I’ve got sounded awesome in my mk1 TT. Hopefully it will sound as good if not better in the avant!

Sound proofing is great if the speaker is within the cabin, like your parcel shelf sub, having one in a sealed and enclosed saloon boot space doesnt work, you just get vibration and minimal sound.

Sealing not sound proofing then .

What is vibrating ?

Anyway to port through rear center armrest ?

The boot is sealed, and audi have sound proofed the cabin, not sure what you are trying to get at and why you are picking holes in what I said...

Vibrating is what a 400w rms sub does when sealed in a a soundproof box, you get no sound, just vibrations.
Would work ok in an avant I expect.

Could port through the armrest, wouldn't look pretty though, more like something from max power.
I come to terms with the fact it was either custom build a box incorporating the parcel shelf, with it porting through there into the cabin, but you dont want the speaker pumping directly into the cabin, you get better sound if the speaker is away from you, I cant remember the exact details, but due to needing to put buggys in the boot scraped the idea couple of years ago.

I wonder how people got on with a basser subwoofer enclosure in a saloon ?

They must of sold a few .

Once again, what are you trying to get at?

I have never heard of basser, and I presume they would have similar results to what I described in a saloon, minimal sound.

I've told you I have given up on the idea and why. I've also told you that I had a solution yet decided not to pursue it.

At what point in that did it seem like I required your help?
You've done nothing but try and correct me, as if I dont know the reason it didnt work properly and that I was making it up.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my mindset and my mind is open, but if I'm telling you a sub in the boot doesn't work, why would buying a box that is the wrong dimension for the speaker going to improve things.

Just that I haven't heard of anyone complaining about an uprated sub in B7 saloon before .

I can see your point though as there is probably a metal parcel shelf above which would block unlike a hatchbacks parcel shelf or avants pull over load cover .

Soaps have stopped on tele so I turn to Audi-Sport.net :grinning: what happened its been like and hour? They always flipping end the program at the juicy bits :disappointed:

Joking aside though this debate has me curious I have a saloon with stock headunit and factory bose the car obviously has a subwoofer which I'm assuming is in the boot?? In comparison to my mrs 2007 Zafira which has a pioneer headunit, alpine door speakers (all 4 doors) and an 8" pioneer under seat sub/amp mine is on par with hers maybe not as much bass but its not far off at all so if my factory sub "is" in the boot its doing a damn good job to keep on par with her set up.

I have this setup with a 10" Kicker Sub and amp. Works really great, sounds great, and takes up no space. Def recommend.

Don't know what got up your trousers. He was trying to be helpful and you took it as an attack.

Is this your first time on the internet?

What got up my trousers was I was trying to offer advice to OP from experience, and I get someone telling me that I'm wrong, clearly wasn't wrong I rigged my setup and it didnt work properly, open the boot and you can see the speaker pumping air and creating noise, shut the boot and it just muffles it, bit like standing outside a nightclub.
Dont need some smart *** coming on try to correct me when infact he is the one talking rubbish.

The standard sub is in your parcel shelf underneath the grill, it works very well for what it is, what it doesnt provide though is thumping low end bass, but as standard systems go, its excellent. Mine is non bose as well.

The whole point of me saying what I said is that by putting a bigger sub in the boot, because the boot is soundproof, sealed, insulated whichever you call it, not a lot of sound travels through.
It ended up with having a big heavy speaker in my boot sliding around and no sound benefit over the standard setup so I removed it.
It could be something so simple as removing the standard speaker from the parcel shelf would allow the sir to travel through and sorting it out but I lost interest in pursuing it.

I recon that's the way forward .

Shame you didn't see the custom fit enclosures , definitely family friendly .

Tell me about big heavy enclosures , my
3rd sub back in the late 90's and still have one in the loft ( might be worth some money ) is a 12" Rockford Fosgate , The Punch , Pro Series 1 , huge magnet , iirc just the sub weighed 1 Stone 3 pounds , enclosures moving is usually cured with velcro .

@maxdrz400 I get what your saying. My dad put 2 10” subs in his Carlton GSI back in the day and the sound wasn’t great.

He ended up pulling the armrest down, cutting a hole in back plate between the seats and putting a speaker grill over it. Sounded good then.

Don’t think I’ll have any troubles like that though as mines an avant

Made a start on this this evening. Got the power cable through to the cab and tucked up nicely along the interior trim. Wired the ground to a bolt in the spare wheel well.

Need to find a wiring diagram for the harness at the stock sub/amp.

I know white is the remote but that’s as far as my knowledge goes!

Either that or you can get a high level input (assuming you amp allows one) and can tap into the wire going to the standard subwoofer.
I went low level and found a diagram easy enough.

Yeah my amp does allow high level input and I’ve got an impedance converter too.

Will suss it out this afternoon
