Metal RS4/6 Paddle Shifters

Someone fitted the genuine R8 ones to their wheel, these looked superb, but came at a price. About £500 I believe
I wanted to do that on my RS4 but no one could confirm they would fit. The sponsors on here (Crewe Audi) would have supplied them for £300 and something though.

I found the post TX on this, it was under taken on a 8p rs3.
The paddles looked great.
That’s a really good price as o found these paddles and the are advertised around the $900 mark:tearsofjoy:

Still spanking the rs meganes in the m5 mate on your recent track day:tearsofjoy:

Ha ha yes, even though the car is big it seems hard for the smaller weedy engined vehicles to get past ;)

just expand on the removal side (of the airbag), when you put the screwdriver into the hole on the back, you need to lever the springs inward

(little bit fiddly) this was the majority near 90% of my time on the whole job I would say, the rest is easy.

straight on pic of the springs from the interweb, lever in direction of arrows;

@Walternate How about some photos like my of the RS4 wheel from further away to see how they look on the RS3 wheel please?

Also how do they feel compared to the plastic ones when you touch them?

Yep the size is a deal breaker for me.....the search continues :superman:

are the stock paddles on a FL plastic too? Just realised from reading this thread and being in the car earlier that mine are metal? they are mainly black with silver around the edges?

they're not metal, just a finished metallic effect on plastic seen here on the right

Finally fitted mine this morning.
The only thing to add to the above is that I could only remove the airbag by releasing the left side catch before the right side.
Total time to change was 1.5 hours. At least one hour was removing the airbag.
Now that the old shifters are off, the quality of them is quite poor. They are really light and flimsy. I design this kind of thing for a living and I would describe these as "cost optimised".
The action of the new ones is much more solid and positive.
I'm looking forward to delivering some shopping to my parents tomorrow to try the new ones out.

Pics or it didn't happen.

What did you find was the hardest part of the install? The airbag? Anything we should be keeping in mind when we do ours??

Trickiest part was the airbag removal.
The right hand side was very easy but the left hand side was very difficult.
I could not release the left after the right.
Removing the black trim was painful. I found that releasing the extreme outsides where the buttons are before the clips in the centre round section, added some preload so that once the centre clips were free, they didn't try to reattach themselves.

dumb question, is the FL wheel the same as the pre-FL?

Different size Airbag/ buttons different / paddles different / alcantara in opposite position.......

Excellent work :thumbs up:. Totally agree that the plastic RS paddles are cheap when you have them in your hand, but as these new ones are smaller in size it would be the main reason I wouldn’t consider them. They do look great though.

I found the left easy, my time was spent removing the right side, once the airbag was out, it's relatively easy from there.
As you, removing the trim at the outside of the buttons was the best approach.. using trim removal tools to pry it away and pull it from the centre.

What is the length (height) measurement of the RS4/6 paddle shifters?
