After a quick look on the interwebby today I noticed this.

"Dr Hilary Jones has urged Brits not to wash their cars during lockdown, describing it as “non essential”.

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan questioned the expert, who is a regular on the show, about which household chores were still allowed, with many Brits left scrambling for things to do."

Oh dear, what next .

We are not on total lockdown and also I am the same as @Raiden but on a different level as I can't take someone seriously who looks like he has been dragged through the hedge backwards whilst on telly

The next thing will be we're not allowed to have a bonk as it's “non essential”.

And this whole "Lockdown " wording, we are far from being locked down, just restricted movement.
A really inappropriate word in my view.

Found this on surrey web page,

This is not lockdown , I wish people would stop using the word.
Oh look Hilary, you can use your garden so you can wash your car or do anything else you want , in your garden which also means within your own property.

What a load of Bol*ocks, not essential (not washing your car not the sexy thing).

I would reply that it's part of my daily exercise, bending, stretching, reaching etc, plus the walking around when done to admire the finished result!

Anyway I wash mine in the back garden behind closed gates, so ram it Dr Hilary

Our cars are probably the second most expensive item you purchase after your house so maintaining by washing and detailing it to me is essential as long as you keep safe by social distancing and like Andy Butcher has said it give you some exercise and keeps your mind active.

I never take advice from someone who looks like a conceited **** so he can do one, really can't see how washing your car is more dangerous than going shopping lol

Can’t remember the last time I washed my car, got to be 18 months i would think and it’s black, doesn’t really get that dirty and rain tends to clean it, mind you I do have to do it this weekend as got ma in laws funeral on Monday, OH has given orders

Dear all; first of all a bit of context. The question he was replying was about specifically about washing your car in the street. Secondly, diasgree with him if you wish, but please knock it off with the personal comments. Dr Hilary Jones has been the calmest, best-informed, most informative, and most sensible and level-headed contributor to the whole CV19 crisis since it broke.

Well said, it's a little like all the Professor Chris Whitty bashing, everyone is quick to judge those who have a life dedicated to helping others.

Besides this cleaning a car is not "essential" if it was the car cleaners would be open.

What's essential to one person may not always be essential to someone else, my cars my escape when things get on top of me I go out and drive my car or I clean it, work on it whatever the situation ends up being it always revolves around mine or the Mrs car, I don't drink, smoke or do drugs my escape is the cars so to me washing or working on them (on my own drive) during these times is essential to my mental health as its my escape from this crazy head I share my life with:icon thumright:

Seem to be confusing desire with necessary, I too like cleaning cars but it's not "essential".

Like I said it may not be necessary to you or someone else but if I start going downhill ill damage people or end up wasting hospital and doctors time when I can keep my mind focused on something as I'm lucky enough to have found an escape that works for me, looks like your fortunate to live a perfect life problem free and do everything by the book, good for you babes, we can all dream.
