Hi all,

I recently bought a 2011 Audi A1 TFSI. I love everything about it so far, but one thing I'm missing is Bluetooth. It has a monitor display and the head unit has buttons for telephone and navigation. However, if I click on those buttons, it tells me they aren't installed. I checked the version and it says RMC-EUXXXX. From what I understand, these models probably don't have Bluetooth..

So I was wondering if I could buy a head unit from a car that has Bluetooth and simply replace it. I've already found quite a few on eBay, but I have no idea if this will work. I just wanted to check before I fork out a few hundred euros.

Cheers!

You could use a bluetooth dongle into the cig lighter or the USB port if you have on. Cheapest and hassle free option.

From what I know, it's quite complicated, you've got the head unit, the screen and the speedometer screen all connected,

I would imagine there is some software required as well,

Depending on how long you plan to keep the car it might be worth speaking to Audi about a retrofit,

Other options are aftermarket kits, there should be plenty available,

Do you have an MMI connection in the glovebox you could use at for USB/Phone instead?

True, the easiest and cheapest option by far is just getting a a Bluetooth dongle. I think I will do this to start off with. But I'd really like to be able to control the music from my screen.

I was thinking of only replacing the head unit. Do you mean that it wouldn't be possible to change the head unit alone as they depend on the screen and speedometer screen? Would I not just be able to unplug my head unit and fit in a newer one?

Sadly, I don't have an MMI connection. There is a plastic section in the glovebox that looks like it's ready to be punched out, but it's just a block of plastic at the moment.

I'm pretty sure it will be a lot more complex than just replacing the head unit,

Most Audi retrofits need to be activated/coded via VCDS,

If you're looking to take calls you may need to have the microphone unit installed, wiring looms etc.

Sadly it's not like the old days of just fitting a new DIN headunit and wiring loom then off you go,

I reckon your best bet is to find an aftermarket add on kit for bluetooth,

Alternatively just use the SD card slot for music

Cheers for the advice! I will probably look at aftermarket kits as I mostly use Spotify.
