Heya,

Long shot but I’m hoping there are some wheel gurus on here...

I’m wanting to purchase a set of the motec ultralight wheels in 9.5j et45

my friend has 8.5j et45 wheels, and he has to use a 2-3mm spacer on the front to clear his front brakes.

would 9.5j et45 give me any extra clearance? I’d rather not use a spacer at all, as 9.5j et45 would give me the perfect fitment without need for a spacer, it’s just a case if they’ll clear the brakes or not.....I’d rather go for 8.5j if a spacer is needed as the stance won’t be perfect on them and I’d need a spacer anyway.

anyone any experience with these wheels?

Thanks!

If your looking for lightweight alloys you can have a look at revo. perfect fit without the need of using any spacers and I’m running 245 mp4s all round

Just to add my car is lowered as well

not a huge fan of their design, also they’re 10kg a piece, the motecs are 8.8kg and cheaper ☹️

A 9.5J wheel with the same offset as an 8.5J wheel would have 1/2 an inch more clearnce , so around 12mm, assuming the wheels were the same. Clearance to spokes of the wheel is dependent also on the shape of the spokes. Most motorsport style wheels have good clearance so they would be good I am sure. They look very light at 8.8Kg for a wheel of that size so looked on the Motec site.
And it says that size wheel is 9.5Kg.

Sorry yes, 9.5kg in 9.5j and 8.8/8.9 in 8.5j. Do you know roughly how much a 10mm spacer weighs? I’d assume once adding a spacer you’d be looking at the same weight with 8.5j?

I would expect a 10mm spacer would be around 250-300g . Another 50g for the weight of the longer bolts.Wheel weight is just an much about where the weight is as opposed to the total weight. On a wider rim the weight is in the width of the outer part of the wheel which has more effect on performance than any weight in the hub. Also how wide is the tyre ?. You can fit narrower tyres to wider rims for a bit of a stretch but you tend to get poor wheel protection if you happen to brush a kerb. A 9.5 inch wheel will take a 255-265 tyre as the optimum size. An 8.5 inch wheel 235-245 tyre.

I ended up ordering the 8.5j et43. For £950 @ 8.9kg a wheel, I think that’s a no brainer. Raving reviews online, I think they’re fantastic value for money!

I would have gone for the narrower lighter wheel if you are running 235/245 tyres .

Get some details up of it all once your done with some pics as well mate. They are a great looking wheel, do they need spigot adaptors too for the hub size?

Yes, I believe they come with the spigot adapter rings though :)

Yes they come with spigot rings and new wheel bolts.i have them on mine.8.5in wide et43 offset.fit perfect without spacers and are really light.

Silly question but do you know what length the bolts are? I may use a spacer I’m not sure yet, but if the supplies bolts are longer than 28mm stock I won’t bother ordering any. Are they silver or black?

The bolts they sent were silver.they are standered length.i just ordered some 28mm black ones from ebay.i would fit them first and see what you think before fitting spacers.depends on what size tyres your fitting.i just swapped over my staggered tyres for now,but im going to replace them with a full set of 255's which will bring the rears bang on i'd say.

ATM I’m using 245 michelin ps4s’s, shall see how they fit and go from there. What colour did you order? Trying to decide if I want the silver bolts with my silver wheels, or black...tough one!

My car is black so i went with black wheels.was a bit unsure about them before i ordered them but once i got them on they look really nice.i fitted the mss spring kit at the same time, dropped it about 10mm all round for now and the whole look has just made the car look so much better.

They look good.
I like them.
Wasn't too sure at first looking at the web site pics, but fitted, yes, really suit the car.
They look a little fragile though.
Avoid them pot holes

They wernt my first choice either.the wheels i picked first needed spacers so i went with the ultralights as they fit spot on without them.im glad i got these now there on as i really like them.just need to get them pirelli's off now and get a full set of 255's fitted, probably michelins.

Mine our 8.5 x 19 ET43. Tyres are the standard staggered ones!

So these Motec rims 8.5 x19 ET43 will have no issues with staggered setup (255/30-19 front, 235/35-19 back) everything would fit with no issues?
What's the diameter of the center hole, is it 57,1? Or is it bigger and we get a spigot ring?

Any link to a web shop? It seems that everywhere they're out of stock.

The ones I got were 66.5mm and come with spigot rings.

I’d be binning those Pirelli tyres asap and putting 245/35/19 Michelin pilot sport 4s’s on in place or Goodyear super sports of the same.

you can order direct through motec just drop them an email.

they are also for sale on eBay.

Looking at getting either the motec or leggeras 8.5 all round to fit my 235 Michelin’s, I’m in the U.K. so my question is where is best to buy them? eBay is the cheapest but not sure how I feel ordering them as they all come from Germany, has anyone bought them this way or just went through the main websites?

If you order from Germany you might have to pay import tax.

Bought some of these wheels 2 weeks ago from LK Performance on ebay and they looked mint but last week I hit a canyon of a pot hole. I can't even buy a replacement wheel because LK told me they don't deal with Motec anymore, so I emailed Motec and they can't help me because they've got no UK dealers anymore £1200 down the pan. :crying:

How bad are we talking? You’d be surprised what can be fixed these days, but appreciate its not ideal driving round with a welded wheel.

Alternatively if they’ll sell you a single but not post to the UK, I believe there are companies who’ll take delivery of your item in Germany and then forward on, for a fee of course.
