Hey guys (and gals),
With the lockdown in full swing and car hardly moving, I'm thinking it's a good time to paint my exhaust tips. I've got the primer and calliper paint as per a post some time ago, but was wondering if someone can guide me through how to remove the tips (and what tools are required). Photos would be great!
Thanks all,
Enjoy the sunshine

Hammer.

get down on the ground, look underneath, apply light “percussive maintenance” to back edge of the tip.

You were right sir, all four out. I found it best to whack with the hammer and pull with my other hand to hasten things along

Now you can do what I did. Polish them to a shimmering gleam, then chuck ‘em in a cupboard until the day you sell the car.

Nah, priming them in black. They're never going back to all chrome (see attached pic, I cleaned them with Autosol and a flocked cotton drill bit then scrubbed them with a scourer to getting tough bits off as best I could) so might as well paint them the colour of soot so I don't need to clean them! They don't get as dirty nowadays anyway with the valves permanently open

Any suggestions on best way to whack them back in? Presumably they need to be covered with something so they don't get damaged on way back in?
Here they are with a layer of black calliper paint on, I think I'll leave them like that.

Great idea.
Might do mine. After the last time I had removed the tips and gave them a scrub they are looking a bit tatty. Chrome was pitted to hell.
I managed to get them back on by hand. Slide them in and a few whacks with palm of hand got them in pretty well

Yeah watched a YouTube video of a guy doing it to a Golf R, he hung his up on string for a more even spray but my Amazon cardboard did the trick lol. Will push / whack them back in tomorrow morning

Here's some pics of the finished article, got a small chip on nearside so I'll give it a once-over tomorrow when the weather improves again

Looks good. Might be just the photos but it’s got a kinda dark chrome finish.

Haha! Yeah it's a sort of block chrome look, I'm liking it and the main thing it won't look dirty! :rockwoot:

Added a shot in the sun light

Look good :icon thumright:.I had the tips on my RS6 Black powder coated a few weeks back, the original finish had started to pit like yours. Previous owner properly not as keen on me on keeping them clean.
