The flatbottom wheel and air ag are different from the sline steer.
You can take out the chrome trims but its a pain in the *** since they are melted on the casing of the airbag. I broke the trim out and swapped it for a new one which I put in place with some glue etc..

Ah thats easy mate, get the airbag out and you can gently pull the trims up. It comes off as one piece (leftz right, bottom amd ring in the middle). Its held by a few clips inside the wheel.Nah bud the flat bottum one think of wrapping the silver parts around my mf buttons

Just disconnect the battery when working with airbags. And never disconnect any airbag with the battery off (it causes errors on your dash).

I just read your reply again, I think you mean the chrome ring ONTO your airbag right?

Hi guys I finally managed to get a DAB setup that I’m kinda happy with. For years I’ve been trying to find a as close to factory look as possible for DAB radio. I heard about the Dension DAB+U and have just got it connected and wanted to share the results.
I’m gonna start pulling the trims off and try to hide the aerial as best I can as I hate seeing stuff stuck to the screen etc. I’ll post other pics once it’s done.

Ok it’s all in and working really well considering I live in a weak area. But pros and cons wise:
Pros:
Finally DAB on my RNS-E,
Stations displayed in a list and selectable from head unit,
Steering wheel controls can be used to select station (obviously)
Very easy to use ie update station list etc.
Comes with traffic report that you can turn off and on (from firmware 1.22)
Cons:
I have to loose my iPhone as a media in or switch cables when I want it connected. (Though I’m now building a switch for the armrest
Station buffer time can be up to 40 seconds of silence once you change station. Though that could be my area.

Thanks buddy I’ve always tried to hide to extra aerials. I suppose putting it further out could give better reception etc. I have a little thing about trying to hide it as much as possible so I don’t see it while I’m driving. The reception seems to be pretty good to be fair. I’ve got a spare aerial that I might try it on the rear quarter window.
Wrapped my dsg surround and ashtray a while back with some cheap.ebay vinyl looked good but after our short lived heatwave the ashtray peeled back so thought no better time than the present to redo it aswell as try out the door card trims.
Would definatly prefer the real C/F but not much available at a sensible price plus the vinyl i got from polimax looked verry close to the real thing and was much more robust. Turn out pretty good didnt waste any material either must be a natural

Fitted the new BCS centre section The assembly will also allow the S3 to achieve above 390 bhp with correct mapping and additional hardware.

The windscreen aerial has always put me off this mod, why don’t they use the shark fin aerial?

You’d get poor reception aerials are supposed to be like masts. So the small shark fin just wouldn’t be big enough to get a decent signal without drop out. It sucks I know but it’s the way it is. The stick on ones have always put me off that’s why I try to hide it as best I can. Even though I can hardly see mine I’m looking at where to put it now.

A shark fin antenna gives a better reception than a stick on windscreen antenna because it’s mounted on top of the car above the roof. A normal antenna on top of the roof would also be better than a shark fin antenna just because it is bigger.
However depending on where you are in the country your reception with a stick on windscreen antenna may be fine anyway if you’re in an area with good coverage.
I kinda see where you’re going but personally don’t think it’d be better as it’s about the length but to be fair I’ll happily give it a go and see what happens the kit I bought came with a fakra adapter and I’ve got a shark fin with a spare connection. Though I’ll also try the existing FM/AM aerial but again don’t reckon it’ll work or be much better as they wouldn’t give you a windscreen one if your current one can be used. Meh it’s a fun experiment either way

To be fair that’s a good shout I’ll check ELSA before I start playing about tomorrow. But so far all I’ve seen online about the 8V is windscreen mounted after market ones. I had to fit DAB to a mk6 golf once. All I had to change was a booster and run a aerial to the head unit. As it was in the rear screen

Don’t bother. I was originally excited by the prospect of using the boosted signal from the existing aerial but found out that it only supplied FM as it filters out other frequencies.
Ah that sucks cheers though bud. I might look at getting the golf DAB booster and seeing if that can be used somehow but I don’t want to risk screwing up the TV setup I’ve not long put in.

The 8v platform uses the shark fin for dab.
To use your existing antenna on the a3 you would have to do what you did in the golf and swap the aerial amplifier and run another cable to the dab unit.
The reason everyone supplies stick on antennas is because they’re the cheapest and easiest to install.
In order of signal quality, the best is a roof mount mast antenna, then roof mount shark fin antenna, then a windscreen stick on antenna.
There’s a website called dabonwheels.co.uk. Have a look on there, it shows you the rough signal rating of each aerial.
Ah cool thanks mate i'll check that site out in a sec as I don't mind spending the money if it means its less intrusive and hopefully better reception. Though I did check ELSA and it does appear the 8V uses the rear screen for DAB the shark fin is used for GPS, GSM, Satellite radio and Aux heater. though the cfd does list digital radio at the shark fin the index states "only on models without digital radio" though it's more than likely possible to have either or depending on spec and equipment level etc
I have a sharkfin DAB on my S3 and it is amplified with a power source from the car radio.
It picks up most stations and holds the signal well. BBC stations seem strongest and rarely drop out, but I listen to Absolute radio or Spotify via Android Auto mostly, and Absolute has a few black spots in my area that my Partners car has the same issues with and her DAB is receiving through a stick on aerial.
I my opinion, the Shark fin looks much better and performs no worse.

Went to brakedepot.co.uk to pick up my C Hook front discs. Got talking to them about how I’m just going OEM on the rears and after nipping back home they had a matching pattern. Took 20 minutes and 30 quid, winner

Is it hard to get to the point you showed in the photo? Looks like molding needs to be removed by sliding it off, though might be more to it.

One maintenance item I hate is cleaning out the fender liner. Such a bad design
But on the bright side I finally tackled the airbag cover after having it lie around for 2 yrs

two ways to do this.
first way in brute force removal. Just remove the liner screw next to the cap and pull off. If your lucky nothing will happen but doubt it,
second, remove wheel and then the arch liner screws and liner and put hand down into the cap area and push out. You will save the two tabs on top and wont break the main tab in the middle. The middle tab slids off the cap. If this breaks you will need a new one. THe installation process at the plant is just to push it into position. Removal and repair is more difficult. I am not happy with the design as all those leaves that land in the area next to the windscreen can fall in the gap and collect in that area. It's a bad design. I vacuum that area everytime before I wash and despite that effort, I still got that crap. My skirt is sealed from the road so I doubt its getting in there as no dirt was found by looking down the rear of the main skirt

Cambelt and water pump changed along with a service.
Also decided to treat her to some puddle lights and door warning lights. Can not thank Robin enough for these looms, they're absolutely amazing, nice easy install as well. The longest part was cutting the whole for the puddle lights! Instructions are great and the workmanship on the looms are top quality. I think it adds a nice little touch too without being over the top.
Footwell lights next I think! Will have to double check what wiring is there first as I don't see any lights installed.
