So Racechip have got 491bhp out the A45s with just a map! However, they only got 540nm of torque (This is compared to the 694 nm i have in my FL Stage 1 RS3)

They even tested it 100-200kmh. It did 9.16 secs. For comparison, i can do an easy 7.77 in my RS3.

How does this compare to others 100-200 times? And what do we think would happen on the road between a stage 1 A45s and a stage 1 RS3?

A fair bit more power than a stage 1 RS3, but i think the fact it is so down on torque would really show....

Sounds alright ish from the inside. Terrible from the outside.

With almost ~500bhp, you would have thought it do a quicker 100-200kmh time than 9.1sec. Stock rs3’s are in the high 9 low 10’s region.

That's pretty remarkable to do and still be reliable with one less cylinder. Who would of thought 30 years ago when the whole import scene was trying to get to just 200 naturally aspirated wheel horsepower, we'd be seeing four bangers with 500hp with a slight tune. Kinda mind blowing when you think back (well and if your old enough).

I'm old enough :tearsofjoy:

I remember thinking how potent my EP3 civic type R was back in 2003 with 200 naturally aspirated horsies

I was thinking about the Integra type R and I remember saying "wow how In the world can they do that" when v6's barely had 200 hp!

Different kettle of fish here but koenigsegg new germana car is producing 600+ hp from its 3 cylinder 2.0l engine.

That engine is amazing. I wish I could get the camshaft "assembly" like it has as an aftermarket option for my car. Would improve output dramatically.

I bet the cost of it would be same as an rs3 mate:tearsofjoy:

I’ve recently switched to an A45s after owning an RS3.

The only thing I miss is the sound ... everything else is on a new level, albeit I owned a pre face lift.

I’m sure the new RS3 will level things up though :icon thumright:

I’d also had Audi’s for 12 years so a change may not be a bad thing.

I wasn’t a fan of the old A class ... but I was always attracted to the new one.

Merc have massively upped their game & it feels very premium. I love the exterior looks of the 45 and inside it the cabin is ultra modern .. & the display & tech is incredible.

Good video here for anyone interested ...

Totally agree on the new A class, although not the 45 my wife had an older A Class and I hated it, bought her a new A200 premium AMG line and it’s really nice, quite a pleasant drive when comparing against the RS3 which is obviously set up for a harder sportier ride.

I would say the interior is a bit ‘busy’ and distracting but guess you’d get used to it, I don’t like the gear ‘stalk’ but the ambient lighting and seats however are fantastic.

All in all a fantastic package, I’d be interested in one in the future maybe but having only owned the RS3 for 7 months I’m still loving it and keen to see the new RS3, however I doubt I’d want to spend that sort of money (£60k+ with options) so a nice used A45s might be the way forward if reliability on these motors prove well.

Any photo’s of yours mate? I actually prefer the non aero cars as a bit more discreet.

Blimey Snake, didn’t expect this from you!

Did you part ex the RS3? Having moved away from the 5cyl engine and missed it, I wonder how you’ll get on because I’ve got to say the A45 sounds distinctly uninspiring from what I’ve heard so far.

However, lovely looking car and interior!

Overall package mate ... car does sound good just not as good as my pre fl RS3 ... but as an overall car it’s awesome I love it ... it feels like it should cost £100k inside the cabin & externally it’s mean and has a great wide stance but not in yah face being none aero ... & boy it can shift :icon thumright:

Expect to see a lot better numbers than this when we some figures from flash tuned cars, not tuning box efforts. There has already been some performance testing with Dragy in the UK and they got better numbers in stock form than these boys have with their tuning box (see images below)

I recently had a A45S for the day and having previously owned the first gen A45 when they came out and tuning it during my ownership, I was very keen to try the new model to see what improvements MB have made (especially now that I own a FL RS3)?
I was very impressed with every area of the car - performance was very good, dynamics/handling were great, looks fantastic (in the right spec) and interior quality/toys are top drawer! However, the sound!!!! Wow, what a disappointment! Even with EU law, fun spoiler, OPF handicapping, it had no sense of occasion at all! Best way to describe it was like playing Forza :-(
This will hopefully be sorted with a full exhaust system, so potentially an easy fix. But for now, I'll stick with the RS thanks.

Wow! And this is completely stock? Very impressive in that case! I too used to have a pre FL A45 AMG and really liked it. I do prefer the cabin of the Merc and find my RS3 plain in comparison.

I may pop out to the shops today with my Dragy and run some of the tests above and see what i get. ;)

Completely stock 1000 mile dealer demo (most probably on 95 ron **** juice too)...
Are you stock or modded?

That really is highly impressive then! Even more so!

No, i'm MRC stage 1. 480bhp & 695nm. My car in standard form could match that 0-60mph time you did in the A45S, and get very close to the 1/4 mile time, but was about a second slower on the 100-200kmh test!

Have you tested yours with Dragy since having Stage 1 MRC tune? Be very interested to see the numbers if so (compared to my Revo Stage 1 file)?

Yep. Not all metrics though. Literally had one quick go. Did 3.21 secs to 60mph. 7.20 secs to 100mph, and 100-200kmh (62mph-124mph) in 7.77.

Haven't done 1/4 mile yet and also think i can get that 100-200 time down.

Literally only discovered custom mode last month! what other tests should i do?

That's ****** good going that for Stage 1. No other hardware mods at all?

Just launch to 130mph and you have all the metrics you need really (1/4 mile, 60-130mph and the others you mentioned)..

Yes Guys ... the car as an overall package in terms of exterior visuals / interior cabin / premium feel / performance / incredible tech & high quality screens ... it’s an amazing car ... it is just the sound.

That said ... some owners are saying the sound gets better as more miles go on ... but it won’t match the 5 cylinder Audi in that respect ... but on every other level I’m supremely impressed. It has a very wide stance too and that GT grille really sets off the front of the car. Merc have done a great job on the looks of this car. Everything feels solid too.

I'd be interested to hear how the car drives in day to day traffic, is there enough mid range torque for maneuvers without having to drop a few gears.

Moreover I'd want to know how tight the car remains after some miles, one thing that really bugged me about my old a45 was the myriad of rattles an squeaks it developed shortly after I got it. I looked a c63s as a replacement and the dealer demo was also full of rattles, it turned me off Merc. But Still keen on getting a v8 before they become history.

Damn! The dash screams Fiat Multipla at me, but otherwise it's not too bad looking. I do like the looks of those seats though, why couldn't Audi offer something a little more like that. Not too hardcore, but a bit more than the super sports that do lack a bit of side support at times.

The performance figures are a bit lacking for 60' / 0-60mph, but I expect there's more to come there as the vids show it can get itself off the line well; the top end however is very strong and shows it's pushing really good power up top - close to stg.1 in the RS3.

Glad to see the competition raising the game, hope Audi rise to the challenge! Enjoy the new car.

My wife’s 3 month old A200 has a few squeaks and creaks, not that she’s bothered but I can hear them when I drive it.

My 7 month old RS3 still squeak free!

Yeah that concerned me ... but touch wood not a single rattle or squeak. It really does feel rock solid build quality. Unless the factory had a good day when they built my car :)

My old A45 did 80k and never suffered with rattles fortunately. I know some do though, but that's the same with most cars IMO.

0-60 in 3.6 from a stock 2.0 hatchback = lacking?!?! Can you find me a quicker one (RS3 included)?

It's got a BMC panel filter and the gearbox map. All done as part of the package at MRC.

Do i not need to make anything custom then? It'll give me 60-130mph as part of the standard readout? Will go and do today!

It does look huge in some photos but it’s fine.

Its looks big in comparison because the rs3 wheel is on the smaller side and thinner. I think i prefered the slighhtly thicker. But definitely ptefered the recaros in my old a45 to the lame sports seats in the rs3. :)

There is no doubt the 2 l engine definitely goes and it's still yet to get the mild hybrid upgrade.

O-60 performance is pretty much on par with the performance many of us have in the FL RS3, see below for a more unbiased test. Where it has the advantage is the 1/4 Mile with the extra power. And the fact that it seems to be a very tough engine that is tunable.

Fl rs3 0-62 In 3.7 sec = around 3.5sec 0-60, all in poor conditions.

60-130mph is a default metric within Dragy (so long as you have it ticked - which is should already be?).

I would anticipate a very low 9 sec run from yours for 60-130 (maybe a high 8) - similar to mine.
