Looking for some advice

My 57 plate audi a3 TDI 2.0 quattro

It has been fully maintained by Audi garage up till now

I went to independent audi specialist to save some money on my most recent service. the car has just reached 120 000 miles.

They only did an oil change.

My question to them was:
-How often does the Haldex need changed?
-How often does air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, cabin pollen filter etc need done?

They didn't know so only my oil change was done, is this correct?

( I replaced my pollen filter myself as it was relatively easy to do)

Thanks!

He doesn't sound like much of a specialist.
If you have service history, I assume you have the service book? If so, it should tell you what needs changing at each interval.

As for Haldex, I treat it as a 2 yearly service (I do 20k a year) and make sure the oil and filter are done at the same time as many dealers only do the oil, and the filter eventually gets clogged and that can cause problems.

Yes i have my service booklet, i can see my fuel filter and air filter should have been done - quite annoyed that wasn't done!

Anyone know any good vw/audi specialist in cardiff/south wales?

Cheers!

Order the parts online and take them to a good independent garage or mobile mechanic.
Even better, do it yourself, at least you know it’s done properly and save a bit of cash for when the pubs open again.

I agree, i would do it myself if I knew how too.

I think pollen filter is easy - can't really go wrong. Air filter i would prob give a go. Not sure about fuel/oil filter though..

I would hope so - how would I know if it was done or not?

by removing it and inspecting, but if you are unable to do that then you have to take his word for it.
If he didn't mark it as complete in the service book, then he has basically told you that it hasn't been done as it would be far easier to tick that box and let you think it was completed, even if it wasn't.

First you need some basic tools to do your own servicing and repairs. A trolley jack, Axle stands, socket set, various screwdriversTorx drivers and open spanner’s, you can add other tools you need as you go. Then you can tackle simple jobs by asking on the forum and watching you tube tutorials. If your stuck at home like most of us, it’s a good time to learn a lot about your car.

problem with diesels is the oil gets tar black within a couple days of changing the oil, its not like petrol cars. so even checking it wouldnt give a solid answer.

personally cant see them not changing the filter, theyd have to be super cowboys to do that. but you never know, and itd always niggle at my mind, so im glad i do it myself.

I gonna do my air filter myself as it clearly needs done and doesn't look too difficult.

With regards to the fuel filter - is there a way to find out exactly what diameter filter I need - when I go on euro car parts there are 3 listed for my car..
