Hi Guys,

Had my 69 plate RS3 for just over a week now before purchase noticed a knock sound from the sunroof when going over bigger bumps or spirited cornering was advised that it was a know issue and just required a thicker grease for the runners well fast forward to today a week and a bit and have had that grease done and the issue is still present and they now want to book me in to look further into it and possibly have all the headlining down ect.

Not sure how i feel about that...

Is this a common issue and is it fixable without issues ?

i feel more issues could be introduced pulling the interior apart like that.

Thanks

Not what you want with a brand new car eh! Hope it gets sorted mate.

Yes it is common with these pan roofs although some don't have this issue. After purchase, mine developed a squeak when driving on /off the drive, the dealer lubricated the necessary parts but that didn't help at all. I decided to put up with it, but then a knock developed when going over uneven roads, so took the car in again and the dealer said the next step was to replace the pan roof which I agreed to. Got the car back and the roof didn't make a noise, great I thought, but after 3 days the squeak was back but the knocking had gone. The only consolation was that they made a good job of removing and reinstalling as there was very little sign of the work being done. Have decided to leave as is.

Same as above. Search the forum for roof issues.

But my new S3 and RS3 both had their sunroofs replaced because of knocking/squeaking.

The S3 issue was fixed by replacing the roof which I then traded in for the RS3 and that roof replacement has not solved the problem. It’s less bad. That’s all. I try to ignore it.

I was without the S3 for 3 weeks for that work and the RS3 was 11 weeks (yes that dealer was far less competent).

It appears the replacing it won’t make it worse but may not make it better so it’s your call.

My last 3 Audi's have had the Pano roof & all have been perfect, not one noise from any of them. I always look for a car with one,for me a must have option.

Where as I will always look for one without as I hate the squeaking (had it on my merc really bad)

pan roofs and sporty set up cars tend to have these issues I have found

Same. Sunroof is the last thing I look for in a car.

Yep, love a sunroof, just adds that extra something.

Great today with the sun out but still a bit chilly and can really hear that exhaust without the intrusion of windows open and getting blasted.

......exactly & when the summer is over open the blind & let more light in. My favourite time is the Autumn as the leaves are changing with a bright sunny day shining in.

My car is a 2017 with 7k on the clock. The sunroof creaks when driving and moving on and off the drive. Dropped into my local Audi dealer who asked if it had been serviced. My immediate response was there is a well known problem with these pana roofs and greasing the rails will not solve this long term. Equally I am not going to pay for a service if the creaking will persist? The car is booked in on the 1st for a look.

I’ve never been asked to pay for simply applying some grease to the rails/seals.

That's very helpful. Thanks for your input.

Mine is just about to get it's second sun roof replaced.

The first one was quiet for a few months and then got progressively noisy. Dealer said that greasing will do little to help, so new one being fitted next week.

Kee to see how you get on

Thanks for all the input guys! I think i will let them have it and sort the issue after all its a hell of a lot of money to have issues like this.
Shall see how it goes though not sure how well all things currently considered

Drove home yesterday after work with the ''roof'' fully open,1st time this year. As in my last post even with air con it's still a must have for me. Gave the wind deflector & inside edges of the glass a good clean as well when i got back. Bit dusty & dirty after the winter, & my bad :redface new: as i haven't had it fully open this year only on tilt until yesterday.

Mine is open about 90% of the time, the other 10% it's raining. :)

Makes a weird noise my car with window open if I drive a bit fast. Actually hurts my ears.

Phantom helicopter, or other half :friendly wink:? If it's the first, go faster, otherwise slow down.

It’s good just to open the rear windows an inch or two, you get a nice draft in the cabin and no ‘helicopter’ noise when having the fronts open at certain speeds.

But for me it’s sunroof open whenever I can.

I don't have one
Turns out my cars original buyer wasn't into optional extras. Surprised the tyres came inflated.

I love my sunroof for the reasons above...

It is open 99% of the time. Heating on when it’s cold or raining lightly. And you can hear the exhaust.

It also brings extra light into the cabin and makes it feel more spacious.

I’d always spec a sunroof from now on.

But doesn’t change the fact it squeaks. It rattled and I had a whole new sunroof and it still does that.

...........thing with Audi is they make a good car & then it's ''sorry'' but if you want a great car you need to spend a few more thousand pounds on out options.

..........shame your pano roof is playing up. As in my earlier post this is the 3rd pano roof from Audi i've had & not a squeak or rattle, but they still are a must have option. Really does make the cabin lighter.

You're right.
You'd think the RS model would have everything. Here's our top car but it's not quite our top car, it's £8000 off our top car but still has the same badge as our top car.
Fair enough do it with the basic models but I think the top model should have all the bits thrown in.
Then again, mine doesn't have keyless start and I prefer that. Bit safer imo. Winding seats though on an RS is a bit of a **** take though. I had full electric seats on my 2011 Mégane RS.

Even on my 2016 RS6 there is no head up display or heated rear seats, couple of things that would have been nice on what must have cost the original owner close to £80,000 !!!!!!!!. Good thing i suppose about being the second owner it was a lot less than that.

The lack of electric seats is ridiculous isn’t it!? It’s the one thing that does my head in about my car, it’s so annoying when my wife drives it and adjusts the seat!
Agree about the keyless as well, I purposely looked for a Sport Edition without the comfort pack as I didn’t want the keyless. I do miss the B&O speakers though... had them in my PFL RS3 and loved them!

Mine is PFL 2015. I have the B&O speakers and sub in the boot. They do sound ace.
Once you've moved that seat it never feels right! The leather is knackered on my driver's seat too. Looks like something from car sos
