Was out on my drive washing the car this morning, when a black Golf R screamed to a halt on the pavement at the end of the drive, and 3 lads piled out, all wearing ski-masks and hoodies. The 3 of 'em came at me repeatedly shouting "GIVE US THE ****** KEYS'. One of 'em right up in my grille, another trying the door handles (it was locked), and the 3rd trying to get behind me.

My adrenaline instantly hit the roof. I didn't really have any time to think about it, but I quickly scanned their hands to see if they were carrying anything. They weren't, so I made myself as big as possible and got angry. Like proper Hulk angry. No way those ******** were getting my car. I've worked too long and hard to get it.

I used lots of full on eye contact and made a LOT of noise. I made it very clear to them that there was NO way they were having my keys and they'd be wise to get back in their car pronto.

After about 30 seconds of me turning the air blue they gave up, scrambled back into the Golf and sped off. ******* cowardly pieces of ****. I got their registration number as they drove off and obviously called the Police afterwards. They've taken a statement and put out an ANPR on the Golf.

Luckily the wife and kids were out.

Main reason for posting this is to encourage all you nice people to be vigilant. And if you're in the Warwickshire area beware of a black Golf R with the registration CE15 YTJ.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to adopt the approach I took. Your safety should be the number 1 priority. I got the red-mist and my inner Neanderthal came out after a very quick risk assessment but that wasn't necessarily the most sensible course of action. Glad I saw them off though. I live in a nice neighborhood - this is pretty unusual in my neck of the woods.

That is truly shocking and gald you're ok. As I'm only 5' 7" (on a good day!) I don't think I would have done similarly, but you never know, as you say, what you'll do in the moment.

Lets hope the boys in blue get hold of the low-life involved - don't suppose you've got CCTV overlooking the drive??

Cheers Dave - I’m 6 foot and in reasonable shape, and bigger than the 3 scumbags who tried it on - reckon they were in their early 20’s. They all looked a bit taken aback when angry Jim surfaced, lol.

Don’t have CCTV overlooking the drive, but I’ll be placing an order for one of those Ring video doorbells this evening - that would have caught everything.

Update from the police - they’ve since had 2 more reports of attempted thefts in the area - same Golf R. They’ve not had anything away though, so sounds like they’re crap thieves, lol

That's shocking. Glad you were able to get them to flee. Not sure what I would have done, but it all depends on their size and what mood I was in. Quickly scan which one looks the smallest and weekest, then Tw*t him first, then run back into the house.

I'm betting the Golf was another stolen car on cloned plates. Probably on different plates within minutes of driving off.

The only thing I'd be worried about is if they come back. They know where you live, and clearly want your car. Do you have a garage to keep it in? I'd also keep your keys down stairs in easy sight, should the decide to come back at 2am. You did the right thing scaring them off, but no car is worth them not finding the keys and walking upstairs to ask for them. I've heard too many horror stories of people being woken up with a knife to their throat, or the wife's throat. Let them crab the keys down stairs, and take the car, and hope they crash it into a tree and all die.

Personally now that has happened, I'd be making sure my locks were up to scratch and installing CCTV.

If these muppets caught me while cleaning my car I would have got the axe or a big metal bar out the garage and made sure at least one of them wasn’t getting away.

What a world we live in nowadays.

Fair play to you. Sounds like you weighed things up in the moment and absolutely made the right choice.

Hopefully the spineless ******* will get what’s coming to them. I’m sure they will.

Glad you’re ok, but I’m sure over the coming days you’ll be replaying this event many times. Glad your wife and kids were out. I’m sure your actions will ensure the cowardly scummers don’t try you again, but unfortunately some other poor soul will be targeted by them.

Couple of double gins for you tonight!:icon thumright:

Well done mate, I would have done the same in all honesty and maybe took a bar to them or something! Think I would lose my S**T!!

When I’m out washing the cars I always pause when a car comes down the street. It’s a dead end so always have a little look if there’s anything/anyone shifty going on.

Again well done and glad it wasn’t to serious, I’d keep alert in case the want round 2!

Utter scumbags, well played for fending them off.
Just to prove that these dregs of society do (occasionally) get what they deserve, one of the guys that tried car jacking my friend's S3 (shouting at her to open the door when she was thankfully sitting in it locked after parking up) has been positively IDed in a line-up and will now go to jail :)

Thanks all, for the kind words. Definitely a couple of beers on the cards for me this evening.

Fair play , anyone , any size , aim to remove scumbags headwear and hair with bellowing .

Well said - my bellowing was gale force. If only the parents of the 3 wankerteers had spoken to them like that. At any point in their upbringing.

Damn! Glad you're okay. These kind of things can take a few days to process mentally, so have a nice easy weekend.

Cheers Baka. I’ve spent some time thinking would I have done anything differently with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. When they first tipped out of the Golf my first instinct was to drop the pressure washer lance and square up, fight ready. In hindsight the pressure washer could have been a very effective ‘persuader’. 130 bars of water pressure to the fizzog would have been a very satisfying reply.

Ah, thanks for checking mate :thumbs up: Reassuring to know I recalled the reg correctly. It’s possible the licence plate was cloned from another black Golf R

Well done you mate very brave.

There’s a fine line between brave and foolhardy mate. I had to make a quick decision on how ‘serious’ and capable they were. Thankfully I got it right.

Cheers Mike - I’ll certainly be very aware of what’s going on around me going forwards. They’d be daft to consider round 2, and they’d be wasting their time coming back for a middle of the night visit. I have a multi-layered/faceted night time security system, including a big aggressive ****-off dog, lol.

Evil scrotes - glad you and the S3 are still together.

Sometimes I wonder what I’d do but it’s all situational and to what level the adrenaline is pumping vs self preservation.

Nice idea about the pressure washer but unless it’s a proper water cannon it would only get them wet unless they were within a foot of the nozzle and that’s too close.

I have heard the idea of throwing your keys over a hedge / neighbour garden / onto the roof / down a drain. It’s probably several hundred quid to get a replacement and they’ll probably be vindictive and kick your body panels as they leave but at least they are less likely to get the car.

Yeah thats probably one thing to do that might make them leave without being done for ABH.

100% would work ! In the face, eye balls and all. They would not keep coming at you and being soaking wet would be a massive deterrent.

Perhaps a tin of de icer in the door pocket would be a good idea (but then again when used towards the eyes that would be assault technically but then again ! ! ! ) I liked the idea of the pressure washer to use as well and if they get close it would hurt ha ha ….
