Hi all,

My 2002 S3 passenger headlamp Xenon unit has failed and everything points to the Ballast. I have a ballast to replace the bust one but following the threads on here it looks like a pain to replace.

Question is firstly does anyone on here have one for sale as Xenon seems to be like hens teeth.

OR

If I bought aftermarket headlamps can I remove the XENON all together of will it mess up the canbus. Would I need AUDI to get the ECU to accept a new voltage output for the lights.

Thoughts and any help welcome.

Why swap xenon for aftermarket halogens that’s Astro backwards and would still need the bumper off? It’s not hard to swap the ballast just need to take the bumper off takes less than an hour start to finish , if wanting new lights get the xenons that we’re on the groupbuy from @t8ups 10x better light than the originals

Thanks for the reply, It was more the threat of having to cut the headlamp to get the connection to the rear of the light and then resealing it, thought if i could get a second hand working light from a member, I could take my time to do it right

Nearly a month on and Trups has sorted me with a new set of his Famous Headlamps, Bi xenon dipped and LED Main beam bulbs, just need to find a gap between the snow showers to get them fitted, I will post before and after pictures in the next few days. I will have the old headlamps up for sale if someone wants to tackle fitting a new ballast to them.

LED Main beam bulbs ..

Interesting, which one's ??

I was wondering, what the beam looked like, I have 100 w halogen outer spots , but color corrected ,
looses some of the effectiveness , pug in led replacement , sounds interesting ,

Ok everyone, So I got a set of Bi xenon lamps from TRUPS (Thanks they arrived a couple of weeks ago). Today being the driest day I thought, Great time to crack on.

I have snapped three screws at the bottom of the bumper where the little mudflap is on both sides, Does anyone know the part number for the screws and clips?

Both screws at the centre bottom of the bumper had to be cut off as someone has already rounded them of (thanks) so need both of them and clips

Got the bumper off, unscrewed the top two headlamp fixing bolts to find the third on is rusted solid and after struggling to even get a torx bit on there managed to round the head.

Started to rain so I have put a tarpaulin over the car and packed up my tools, gutted that it sounds so simple but a 18 year old car is bound to have some rusty bolts

Anyone out there on on here that have any of these screws/bolts for sale of know where I can purchase them or the direct replacement in stainless steel, PLEASE< PLEASE Let me know.

Thanks TCG, I'm going to call audi tomorrow but I did manage to find the lower bolts from your suggestion on a Skoda site, I got the wheel arch screws from GSF, finally ordered a Stainless steel kit for the clips and bolts, I'm future proofing for any other owners, Still need to find what to replace the headlamp mounding bolts that are rusted (and rounded, thanks to me) but hopefully its something that hawcos can help with probably.

After all this, I'll probably end up rear ending someone.

Mate...old persons memory...I took a headlight from a scrappy A3 a while back...I'll have a look in my garage tomorrow and see what I've got left.

Hi Hydro, thanks for the offer, I'll see how i get on in the next day or so and may take you up on your offer, if you had any of the speed nuts for a M6 bolt that would be good also, unfortunately there are no scrap yards on Skye.

Anyone got the female connection, it comes up as DJ9006 female, but I can only find them in china and a 4 week delay in delivery, The actual pin from the ballast is welded in the connection and the wires are blistered and wet on the connector side.

I recently had the exact same problem with the ballast deciding to melt out the electrical pin........my solution was to not mess about with the old lights as there pretty naff anyway & buy a new set of Bi xenon headlights.
The light output is absolutely unbelievable, 10 day turn around & didn't cost anything like what you'll pay for a set from em tuning (trupps).

Managed to Source a exact match plug from Taylors Electrical in Aberdeen, used them before and they are sending the plug F.O.C.

The phrase 'Canny Scot' comes to mind :thumbs up:

Ok, a little disappointed now, fitted the new lights, turn them on and....

Same problem, the passenger side xenon dipped beam still isnt igniting.

When I first looked at the problem the bulb was blown, also the fuse in the door panel was blown (think its 21 or 22) replaced both but with no improvement, I thought of the ballast and right enough when I dismantled the bumper the connection was burnt out.

Am I missing something, do I need Audi to reset the circuit or is there another fuse that I'm missing, please help, feeling a bit deflated.

Now looking to find a light switch, can't find any on ebay world wide, but does anyone know if a S4 or A4 from the same time frame switch would also fit.
