Ok so I’m looking at changing my wheels currently got OEM 7.5j ET51 with 16/20mm spacers front and rear, now I’m looking at changing to Team Dynamics pro race 1.2 8j with ET35.

I think that will be somewhere near what I’m currently now, can anyone advise if this is right ?
Cheers.

They might be a bit pokey at the front mate. I have et45 with 8.5 rim and perfectly flush rim to arch lip (Lowered on sportlines) So your wheel will be 10mm further out on offset but 0.25 inch (6mm) in on wheel width so in theory 4mm poke which isn't too much.
Compared to now they will still be about 4mm further out

Got ya, so I’m better with an ET40/45 and potentially put spacers in. Was trying to avoid wheel spacers this time round.

If you went ET40 it would be within 1mm further IN of what you have now (with 8J) without spacers on the front but you would want 5/6mm spacers on the rear to match then ET45 add 5mm and so on.

Minimum for A3 is ET 40 as car isn't wide as A5 series and up .. I bought ET35 and it was crazy sticked out even without tyres.. Had to send alloys back..
Now I have ET48 the wheels (front) are slightly ''inside'' of wing .. so ET 40 would be flush I suppose no any spacers taking into account .. HATE spacers puts wheels centre completely out !

Hubcentric are so much better as they are hub locating, just one thing to think about when getting hubcentric spacers, make sure the CB (Centre bore) is the same as the car i.e. 57.1 or 66.6 (all VAG are these CB) and that the nose on the spacer is the correct size for the wheel. Make sure you get a bigger CB on the wheel, that way you can use a spigot ring to downsize, you cant upsize! LOL

Also don't forget you will need longer bolts, make sure you know if they are radius or 60 deg seating in the wheels. Apologise if i stating the obvious but i have seen many errors when people forget the above (including garages!!) LOL

I am not really fan of spacers.. even when I saw hubcentric .. spacers putting the whole wheel out of center.. As I want to try tyres from 235 35 R19 to 255 35 R19 all round.. the tyre will stretch both sides out and in, keeping still wheel in centre.. 1cm wider outside and 1cm wider inside..
checked this site it is acceptable on 8'' wide wheels

I run 10mm Bimecc hubcentric on my S4 and i have never had any problems, down to preference really Peto. But yes, 8J will work for you but running a 255/35/19 tyre may make your ride not that smooth but again, its down to preference. Not sure whether you have lowered the car, but i have come across instances where the wheel has rub on the rear arches with passengers in the back.

When coming to check on websites, you may encounter that they tell you different things as they will only advise you what will fit, for example, this website https://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Audi/A3 8V (2012 - ).html will advise an ET of 50 and a 235/35/19 tyre.

Hope i am not being negative, just some guidance really and from what i have experienced from friends & family.

I’ve just ordered 8j ET40s so ill see how they look on the car fingers crossed there not far off.

Tjey won't be as I have 48 and it is still inside so yours will be nearly flush with wing depending of your tyre width 235 or 245 or 255..

uh 45 too high 35 sweet spot
ET45 is not too high as ET49-51 is what is "recommended" by OEM and again ET35 is not a wrong offset but the wheel must be a 8J. It is all down to preference and what sort of look you are after. I am in the wheel game Peto so i do with a lot of enquiries of this nature, some people don't mind a 18x8.0 ET45 but then some want to fill the arches which is where the ET35 as you said is "sweet" and looks much better.

Answering simply and with numbers:

8J-ET35 wheels/alloys will protrude 22 mm (1/4 "+ 16mm) more than 7,5J-ET51

So, my opinion for that change of alloys is to put 5mm spacers only on the rear axle (to keep the same width on both axes, as you have now). The result will be that they will stand out 6/7 mm more than now
