I only got myself a C7 allroad a couple of months ago and it's the first car I've had that uses Ad-Blue.

Can anyone tell me whether the car will let me know if its running low?

And what is the tank capacity?

Driving a 2015 A6.

Ta!

Yes it’ll normally give you a warning at 1000 miles. My A7 has a 17 litre tank. I would assume your a6 is the same

Simplest thing is when the warning comes up put a 10l container of Adblue in (on the C7 it requires either a 17mm socket or the wheel brace to undo the filler). Should then last you about 7k miles. Buy it from Amazon or places like EuroCarParts. usually about £12 - not garage forecourts. Be aware that garages that have Adblue pumps on the forecourt will have the flow rate set for filling HGVs, way too fast (and the nozzle is too big) for a car, although it is the cheapest way to buy it

That's a good comparative. Pleased that the car will let me know tbh!

I did consider using forecourt pumps because I assumed that they would automatically stop the flow once your tank is full, just like the pumps for fuel.

But if it's not really there to cater for cars then perhaps filling it up myself would be the better option.

Are brands insignificant or are the options worth considering in your experience?

Halfords usually have 2 x 10L for £20 and comes with a spout as well which actually works

The previous post of 17L is spot on, when my dash alert came on the tank took 16L to fill.

To be honest I just buy the large 2 x 10 ltr containers on the Internet with free delivery and every few months the Adblue - the light comes on with 1500 miles to go but a hassle to fill if in a rush + out & about.
Eurocarparts have some deals on every few day with money off so if they are local to you quite cheap to pick up.

The 20 ltrs drums are quite heavy and you have to lift then quite high to fill the A6 and it fills at a slow rate anyway with he air escaping up the tube so stick with the smaller one - works out the same price if you search around.

I bought the Shell AdBlue 3.5 bottle purely for the dispenser, unscrewed the top (warning: not easy as it isn't designed to come off!) and then refill from Halfords 10 litre container. From Youtube, similar bottle:

Also if you cannot be bothered to get the socket set out every time you fill up the tank you can buy the filler cap used in later models part number 5Q0 131 980 C. Fitted one to my A6 a couple of years ago and it's a perfect fit.

Good advice, will stick to the more manageable drums, else I'll end up with cramp in my shoulders...

What do you pay for that? Is it an Amazon job?

you can get a hose to fill it using a VW drum which holds 10L

I buy 20L drums from a local lubricant supplier for £16

Audi dealership just quoted £30.73 for the Adblue cap. Think I'd stick to the old fashioned method with a socket!

Cannot remember what I paid but it was not that much got it from TPS. Try ebay or a breakers yard
