Hi all, today I drove from Farnborough to Manchester in the S5, put the cruise on at 63, had a clear run back and managed nearly 46mpg!!

It’s on Dunlop winter tyres still and was on Tesco momentum.

Anyone else had such good results on a run?

Not quite 45! A drive from Chigwell to Cambridge, about 1hr drive with the whole M11 journey on cruise control at 75mph.
Small amount of local town driving at the end, did see a high of 43mpg before the local driving.

Possibly cruise set at 63mph is the clue as the faster you go there is more air resistance. When the RAC completed its Record Road Trip in the Audi A6 ultra, that particular car’s optimum fuel economy speed was 52mph in seventh gear on the flat.

On a very similar journey to you, Fleet to Wilmslow, I managed 40.6mpg. Although there were a few sections where I booted it so I could have done a little better if I really tried

In the 2.5 years ive had the S5 ive only ever used the efficiency setting once lol. Thats when i was running on fumes trying to get to filling station.

I've used it once, noted no difference. My "PB" is in individual mode which has everything dynamic but the drive was in "D" not "S".

If anything I find the efficiency setting makes my mpg worse as I usually end up pressing the accelerator harder to compensate.

Personally i don’t like to have my car in efficiency mode or any other fuel saving mode lol. I bought this car to use it to its maximum potential...

I like to enjoy every moment of its 354 bhp and push every horse out of it.

If i wanted a fuel saving economical car i would have kept my 2.0 A6 TDI lol (just saying)
